Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot died tragically and suddenly earlier this month after he and an instructor were involved in a plane crash in France. Claude's brother and fellow Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot has taken to social media ten days later to share his feelings and honor his brother.

Yves Guillemot Pays Tribute To His Brother, Claude

"On behalf of my family and Ubisoft, I want to express our gratitude for your support, and the memories you have shared. They have brought us great comfort. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with his wife Nathalie and their children, Valentin, Julia, and Victoria," writes on LinkedIn, thanking everyone for the well wishes they've sent to him and the rest of the Guillemot family following Claude's passing.

"Claude's impact extended far beyond what he built. As a founder of Ubisoft, a member of the Board of Directors, and the President of Guillemot Corporation, he helped shape Ubisoft with an entrepreneurial spirit, curiosity, and unwavering optimism. He believed deeply in innovation, embraced new technologies early, and always encouraged us to look ahead with confidence."

"The many tributes we have received all speak of his kindness, wisdom, optimism, and infectious energy. Above all, they remind us how naturally Claude made people feel valued and welcome," Yves continues. "Those qualities helped shape Ubisoft’s culture and values from the very beginning. Our belief that great games are created by talented people working together with trust, curiosity, and respect owes much to the example Claude set every day. His humanity influenced our company as much as his vision."

Claude Guillemot And Ubisoft's Legacy

Yves Guillemot/LinkedIn

Even though Yves has largely been the face of Ubisoft since it was established four decades ago, he is one of five Guillemot brothers who co-founded the company together in the 1980s, Claude being one of those five. The siblings left their family farming tradition behind, first to pursue a career in the CD industry for Claude, and then eventually together in computing, a venture that would eventually evolve into Ubisoft.

The name Ubisoft comes from the term ubiquitous software, and together, the five brothers turned the computing software company into one of the biggest and most well-known studios in the world. Yves is still in charge of Ubisoft today, with the studio best known for creating iconic series such as Assassin's Creed, Rayman, Splinter Cell, and Far Cry.

Even though Guillemot wasn't as hands-on with the day-to-day of Ubisoft as he once was, he was still an executive on the studio's board at the time of his passing and will forever be a core part of its long-standing legacy. Our thoughts go out to his wife, children, and family at this time.
