Fear not, Splinter Cell fans. It appears that the planned Splinter Cell Remake is not dead. In fact, it apparently is "making progress," despite a noticeable lack of updates since its initial reveal.

Information about Splinter Cell's status comes by way of Insider Gaming's Mike Straw, who reports that the remake is still in development. With a lack of information, many wondered if the game had been quietly canceled, however, that is reportedly not the case.

Per the report, the game has been given the codename "North," and it is being developed in Ubisoft's Snowdrop Engine. That engine has been responsible for The Division, along with last year's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and this year's Star Wars Outlaws and XDefiant.

As for a potential release, well, that's still in the air. Insider Gaming reports that its sources indicated a potential 2026 launch, though they "didn’t want to be held to that time frame."

Fans Have Been Waiting For Sam Fisher For A While

Gamers might recall that the Splinter Cell Remake was first announced all the way back in 2021. The game was announced as part of a Splinter Cell retrospective video, where it was revealed that Ubisoft Toronto would lead its development. However, in the time since, things have been radio silent.

The team did tease potential news in early April, when it updated the profile picture on its Facebook page, as well as its header image. At the time, many speculated whether the game would make an appearance at Ubisoft's June presentation, though that ultimately wasn't the case. The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake did make an appearance.

Either way, it's a bit of good news for a game that many have been patiently waiting for. The last Splinter Cell game, Blacklist, was released over a decade ago. In the years since, Sam Fisher and the larger Splinter Cell world have been relegated largely to cameo/collaboration duty, including in XDefiant as a faction and The Division 2 as a cosmetic.

For what it's worth, beyond Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia, Ubisoft also reportedly has a remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag in the works. That game is reportedly due out sooner than expected, and Prince of Persia is also due out in the next two years, meaning there could be an influx of blasts from the past titles in the near future if all goes to plan.
