In the 41st millennium, there are plenty of powerful warriors, from the fallen legions of Chaos cultists all the way to the myriad of alien fighters that hope to align the galaxy under their rule. There is only war in Warhammer 40k, after all.

Humanity wasn't without warriors of their own. The sons of The Emperor themselves, these primarchs of the Space Marines are not only generals but incredibly powerful and varied in their abilities. Whether fallen, dead, or those that are still alive, the primarchs were some of the toughest humanity had to offer. But, which of them are the strongest of the strong?

10 Ferrus Manus

The gorgon himself, strong enough to fold metal and craft imposing weapons suited for a primarch with his own hands. Ferrus Manus was a master of the forge and the battlefield.

He was unfortunately slain by his brother Fulgrim, but only due to his hesitation to kill a family member. In his stead, the Iron Hands are still one of the most potent and stoically powerful legions out there.

9 Magnus

Maybe not physically the strongest primarch, Magnus The Red is not without his abilities. He's a potent psyker with skills on a level coming close to that of The Emperor and Malcador themselves.

His abilities can be seen both pre- and post-Heresy in his actions. His homeworld of Prospero was a gleaming place of wealth and prosperity, all guided by him and his psychic abilities. In turn, his Thousand Sons are some of the most powerful psykers out there, with notable mention of Ahriman. Now lost to the powers of Chaos, he often finds himself fighting with Russ and the rest of the Space Wolves. Not the easiest of tasks.

8 Corax

This shadowy figure is a master of not only stealth, but assault combat as well. The leader of the Raven Guard, Corax is an imposing figure with his jump-pack and lightning claws blazing.

While not the most imposing figure compared to the stature of his brothers, Corax has proven himself time and again on the battlefield. He was one of the primarchs caught in the Dropsight Massacre — and not only did he survive, but he led his surviving sons on a weeks-long journey to escape with him, at all times harassing his opponents.

Speaking of his brothers, he has successfully taken on Curze, Lorgar, and Fulgrim, three of the deadliest heretical primarchs out there.

7 Vulkan

Forged in the fires of the planet Nocturne, Vulkan and his sons in the Salamanders are a unique fighting force. No one was sure just how powerful Vulkan was until his run-in with Curze.

The corrupt primarch took incredible joy in torturing Vulkan to the point of killing him multiple times, shattering his psyche for a while. During this, Vulkan even survived a fall from orbit onto the planet Ultramar — such is his strength and especially his resistance to fire.

6 Leman Russ

Leader of the Space Wolves, Russ is a fighter through and through. Brought up on the death-world Fenrir, an inhospitable place of towering peaks and frosty terrain, Russ had to learn to survive, or the world would swallow him whole.

His ferocity in battle can be seen in any of his combat engagements, and such is mirrored in the actions of his sons too. Perhaps the most destructive he has been was when razing Magnus' homeworld for his crimes against The Imperium. Always leading from the front, Russ is as cunning as he is murderous.

5 Lorgar

One of the first to fall to the Heresy, Lorgar may not be the most combat-oriented primarch, but he has proven time and again to be more than capable of holding his own.

Lorgar was a brilliant mind among the primarchs, but sadly his focus turned to the deification of his father and the obscurities of the warp. Despite his mind, he is also pretty adept in combat, at one point fighting side-by-side with Agron and later on surviving a fight against Guilliman at the start of the Heresy.

4 Sanguinius

The angel himself. Sanguinius may not be the first on your mind when thinking of the most physically impressive primarchs. True enough, he is somewhat of a pretty boy, but he has proven his worth on the battlefield time and again.

Most notable was his fight against Ka'Bandha, a chosen daemon of Khorne, in which the primarch went toe-to-toe with the bloodthirster and wound up defeating him — despite serious injuries. There's a reason he stood beside The Emperor when he and Horus faced off.

3 Angron

A butcher and a wrecking ball, no one who is weak could be declared one of Khorne's favored chosen.

Being raised as a fighter in gladiator pits and having a machine that triggers aggression in those who are cursed with it has made Angron lust for battle at every turn. Someone who fights that often doesn't survive by being mediocre. Now as an avatar of war under the banner of Khorne, his body has evolved to be even more resilient and deadly.

2 Guilliman

Leader of the Ultramarines and one of the few surviving primarchs, Gulliman is strong enough to become the new leader of The Imperium and take up his father's sword.

Guilliman may be a well-versed diplomat who would rather solve his problems with care, but that doesn't mean he can't do some damage. Along with Corax, he has also faced some of his brothers in battle, including Lorgar and Mortarion — winning both fights. He even survived minutes in the void of space without a helmet when he was jettisoned from his ship during the Heresy.

1 Horus

The prodigal son, The Warmaster, and for a time the primarch that was closest to The Emperor himself, Horus was another force entirely. Unfortunately, Chaos turned him into the leader of the Heresy, feeding on his emotions and thoughts towards his father.

After the Heresy, Horus was the bane of his brothers and The Imperium as a whole. In the end, he may have been killed, but not before almost destroying the galaxy, and fatally wounding his father and brother Sanguinius.
