Another key content area is Campaign mode. Here you can follow various stories across hundreds of battlefields, playing as the Marines, Black Legion, or the Orks. Then play against them in mirror Campaigns of the same battles as their enemies. In these battles, you can obtain Warhammer 40K Tacticus Lightning Victories.
The Tacticus Campaign And Mirror Campaign
To find the Campaigns, simply click the Battle icon across the bottom of your screen and scroll down to the Campaign and Mirror Campaign sections. When you first start to play, only the Indomitus Campaign is available. Which is fine because it has more than 200 hundred levels that get pretty tough pretty fast.
Further campaigns can be opened up by spending real money. But it’s important to remember that only certain Characters can be used in each Campaign. So, unless you’re willing also to pay to open up the characters, you may as well wait. Each Campaign and Mirror Campaign will automatically open up for free when you have earned the three main Characters listed that are part of its storyline.
Earning A Lightning Victory
You can only earn a Lightning Victory in Campaign battles. The objective to get one will change depending on the battle, but it always requires you to complete the win in a certain number of combat rounds.
This can be as few as two rounds for small battles on tight maps and up to four or more on more expansive ones. This is a separate system from Medals, which governs the level of reward you receive. Also, you only need to earn a Lightning Victory on a map once to continue to benefit from having done so.
Lightning Victory Rewards
On the most basic level, earning a Lightning Victory on a Campaign or Mirror Campaign level doubles the guaranteed coin reward you will receive. But this is very much a bonus prize. The real reward is opening up the ability to Raid that specific level going forwards. This is a big deal, as it gives you a quick way to earn that level’s rewards without having to fight the actual battle.
In the future, if you want to complete that level, click through to the battle screen as normal. But instead of clicking the Battle! Button, after you’ve completed a Lightning Victory there, you will also have a Raid! Button.
As long as you have a Raid Ticket and enough Energy, you’ll automatically win the battle without having to fight. The chances of gaining the rewards are the same as usual (you can click the dice above a reward to see the chance of getting it). But it will save you a lot of time.
- Wins left today: No matter how many Raid Tickets you have, the number of times you can complete each Campaign battle in any 24-hour period is capped. When you go into a battle’s main screen, you can see this number at the top left next to the Lightning Victory win condition. This includes both battles and raids.
- Raid tickets: You get Raid Tickets as loot in almost every aspect of the game. However, if you farm with them regularly, it is certainly possible to run out. If you’re a very regular player, you may want to make sure you have plenty in reserve for when you really need them.
Lightning Victory Raid Tickets And Farming
The recommended use for Raid Tickets on successfully completed Lightning Victory levels is to obtain Character Shards and gear. You can easily get stuck at choke points in the game when you find yourself short of either one. Raid Tickets are the best way to get over these humps fast.
- Gear: Each Character needs six pieces of gear before it can absorb their stats and move onto the next level of their gear. As characters level up, this gear often needs to be crafted, meaning you need multiple copies of several items to make the one you need. Gearing up increases all of a character’s stats, so it is vital for progress - especially in PvP.
- Character Shards: While you use XP books to level up your characters, you need Character Shards to Ascend them. If you don’t Ascend them, you’ll hit artificial level caps that you can’t pass until you do. So once again, Character Shards are essential to your characters’ progress.
To find out what you need for any given character, simply click on them in the main Character Screen. Just under their name, you’ll see a small image of their head in a circular box. This will have a number underneath, showing how many shards you have toward the next ascension level. If you click the image, a box will appear showing you where you can get those Character Shards. Many are available through Campaign Levels. If they are, you can simply click the level on this screen to be taken to it, then you can use Raid Tickets if you have them.
It’s a similar process for gear. Click a character and look at its six square gear boxes in the bottom left of the character screen. If a box doesn’t have a glowing outline, you still need it. Click the item to see a similar box explaining what you need to get that item and where to find it. If you’re lucky, it is available in an available campaign mission.
Of course, you can just play this campaign battles as normal. But once you have your Lightning Victory, it is a lot quicker to farm them.
