Sanrio's adorable cast of characters includes many different animals and humans. One of the most popular characters is Cinnamoroll - he's won seven of the popularity votes so far. It's undeniable that he's very cute, with white fluffy fur, blue eyes, and pink blushy cheeks, but lots of fans wonder what type of animal he actually is.

Posts By Rebecca PhillipsCinnamoroll's design is similar to both rabbits and dogs. His face is dog-like, but he also has long ears and a curled tail that's characteristic of rabbits. If you're wondering exactly what type of creature he is, we have the answer for you.
Is Cinnamoroll A Dog Or A Rabbit?
Cinnamoroll's official profile on the Sanrio website describes him as "A white puppy boy born on a cloud in the faraway sky." Despite some of his bunny-like looks, he is in fact a puppy, not a rabbit.
If that wasn't clear enough, the profile goes on to call Cinnamoroll Cafe Cinnamon's "mascot dog."
Though his tail looks like a classic cottontail bunny's tail, its shape is referencing cinnamon buns, rather than rabbits. It's not explained why his ears are so long and rabbit like, just that they give him the ability to fly.
All of Cinnamoroll's friends at Cafe Cinnamon, including Cappuccino, Chiffon, Espresso, Mocha, and Milk, are also puppies.
Cinnamoroll's Original Design
Although Cinnamoroll is distinctly a dog now, his original concept design was actually a rabbit, which is where his bunny-like features come from.
Cinnamoroll's designer, Miyuki Okumura, originally created an angelic bunny character for Sanrio, but this design was rejected.
Okumura revised the design to make Cinnamoroll a puppy and to include the associations with cinnamon rolls, which is what ended up being approved by Sanrio.
Though the original design is very cute, in hindsight, it seems like the best decision from Sanrio to ask for revisions, as the Cinnamoroll design we have now is extremely popular.
