  • He also expressed that he loved reading A Dozen Tough Jobs, the inspiration for his new project.

George R.R. Martin can't get anything done without being reminded that he needs to complete Winds of Winter. He's partaken several projects over the years, the most popular being Elden Ring, but fans that have been burnt by HBO's handling of Game of Thrones have been pleading the author to give them closure. It's almost a meme now.

Recently, we learned that Martin will be co-producing a new animated TV show based on Howard Waldrop's A Dozen Tough Jobs. It's a relatively modern retelling of Hercules' legendary 12 labours. As you'd expect, questions immediately arose about the progress of Winds of Winter. It seems Martin anticipated this and addressed it in his blog.

In a blog post yesterday, Martin revealed that he will be working on A Dozen Tough Jobs and how much he admired Howard Waldrop. However, he acknowledged that those waiting for Winds of Winter will probably be disappointed. He even listed all the things fans would probably tell him.

"I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER. You have given up on me, or on the book. I will never finish WINDS, if I do, I will never finish A DREAM OF SPRING. If I do, it won’t be any good. I ought to get some other writer to pinch hit for me… I am going to die soon anyway, because I am so old." This went on for a while.

However, he then went on to assure fans that the book is still on his mind, and that he'll never give up on it. "Thing is, I do care about them. And I care about Westeros and WINDS as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine."

Martin explained that he loved reading A Dozen Tough Jobs and Howard as well. It's also unfortunate that he won't be able to see his work being adapted in this way.
