It's finally happening. Xenoblade Chronicles X is coming to Nintendo Switch. Not just a port of the game that originally launched on the Wii U, but a Definitive Edition that will include remastered visuals, more story content, and other stuff that Nintendo hasn't clued us in on yet. That's where the good news that a game many have been waiting for on Switch for years is finally coming gets even better. The most obvious difference between the physical version of Xenoblade Chronicles X and the digital version is the former will be on a game card and the latter will simply be available through the eShop. There's is a less obvious difference between the two, though. If you sacrifice your want to own a physical copy of the Definitive Edition then you'll get a 14-day free trial for Nintendo Switch Online. The original version of the game on Wii U included online elements, so you will presumably need an NSO subscription to access those elements in the Definitive Edition.

Potential Crossover With Nintendo's Next Console

Nintendo naturally hasn't mentioned whether Xenoblade Chronicles X will be released on its next console because, well, it hasn't revealed anything about its next console other than confirming it exists. The release date of the Xenoblade remaster suggests it might be a cross-gen title, though. The Definitive Edition will launch exclusive on Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025, and Nintendo has promised it will reveal something more concrete about the Switch's successor by the end of the current financial year which comes to a close 11 days after the Definitive Edition's launch.

Despite the lack of information regarding a new console, Nintendo's 2025 is already starting to take shape. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the third Nintendo exclusive already confirmed to launch next year. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD hits Switch in Januray, and Metroid Prime 4 Beoynd has been given a 2025 release window but doesn't yet have a firm release date.
