Extended Art Cards Are Proving So Popular In Yu-Gi-Oh That Five More Just Launched
It feels like Yu-Gi-Oh Battles of Legends: Glorious Gallery has only just launched, and yet we're already welcoming another new booster set of cards to the game. Chaos Origins is an homage to the anime and manga so many fans are familiar with and features an overall unique chess theme, so no main deck monsters are included in the set.
Well, Chaos Origins dropped today (July 2) and brings with it 100 new cards, including five new extended arts available in Ultra Rare and Starlight Rare treatments. This booster set also reimagines some classic cards to make them viable in modern play, something many long-running TCGs often fail to do with older, popular cards.
This set will also see the debut of Starlight 2.0 cards, which include visual adjustments to the Starlight Rare treatment to make them easier to read while also having the cards themselves produce richer colors. The old grey borders are also gone, replaced by new rainbow foil borders.
Extended Arts Are All The Rage In Yu-Gi-Oh, So Five More Have Just Launched
Extended art cards are fairly new to Yu-Gi-Oh, but Konami isn't making duelists wait too long for more of these popular new variants. In the Chaos Origins booster set, five new extended art cards have launched; they are:
- The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts
- Magician of Dark Chaos - Black Chaos
- Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Light and Darkness
- Phara the Primordial Goddess
- Witness of the Ancient
Each of these cards is available in Ultra Rare and Starlight Rare variants, and early indicators suggest that, while none of these cards will match the most expensive Glorious Gallery card, they're still going to be worth hundreds of dollars.
Magician of Chaos and Black Luster Soldier are two of the cards to be getting a modernization within Chaos Origins. Magician now blocks your opponent from destroying or banishing your spells and traps, can grab a spell from your graveyard when summoned, and can banish one of your opponent's cards each turn.
As for Black Luster Soldier, it cannot be destroyed in battle, banishes one of your opponent's cards when summoned, gains 1,500 attack points when it destroys an opponent's monster in battle, and can then attack again.

Fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, manga, and TCG will be familiar with cards such as Summoned Skull, Celtic Guardian, and Kuriboh. Now, all three of these cards are getting revamps with new mechanics and designs for each one.
Summoned Skull can now send a ritual spell to the graveyard from your hand or deck before then adding the corresponding ritual monster to your hand.
Celtic Guardian can now have you draw three cards before discarding two, and Kuriboh can still protect your life points, but this includes effect damage now.
Those are just the headlines from the new Chaos Origins booster set, but there are tons of updates and exciting new cards to check out among the 100 additions. This release really is one for fans of the OG anime and manga series, but there's absolutely something for everyone, including the huge Starlight Rare chases.
