Yomawari: Lost In The Dark - Every Boss Sequence, Ranked By Difficulty
Yomawari: Lost in the Dark follows a young girl named Yuzu, who has been placed under an insidious curse that affects her memories, causing her to forget how to rid herself of the curse. In order to retrieve her forgotten memories, Yuzu visits multiple creepy locations in town to find items she has lost.

At the end of your exploration of each of the locations, Yuzu encounters monstrous and enraged spirits that you have to avoid in order to survive and obtain the lost items. The highlight of Lost in the Dark’s boss sequences is how heart-racing they are, making you carefully consider how you use your stamina to escape. As Yuzu doesn’t have a weapon, these sequences usually consist of running and dodging, and dying a couple of times is expected.
9 No, I Don’t Want To Play: Bamboo Forest Mansion
Located in the Bamboo Forest, the abandoned mansion is filled with dolls, one of which appears to be inhabited by a playful spirit. The spirit invites Yuzu to play a game of hide and seek, before tripping over and breaking into multiple pieces.
The doll then transforms into a monstrous amalgamation of mannequin-like parts, chasing Yuzu through the entirety of the mansion. The escape sequence is somewhat simple, as long as you remember the layout of the mansion; however, taking the wrong turn can prove to be fatal. Entering different rooms closes the door behind Yuzu, though, allowing you to recover stamina and get some distance between you and the spirit.
8 Poor Doggies: Shopping District
In the Shopping District, Yuzu must pray for the distorted spirits of dogs who were sadly killed in the town. The sequence starts out quite easy as you must explore the Shopping District, but after praying to the dog spirits a certain number of times, you’re chased by the spirits of several black dogs.
You have to maneuver between the other spirits while praying to make progress and escape the district. Luckily, the layout of the Shopping District is less complicated than other locations in the game, meaning you’ll soon become familiar with the sequence. After you complete the section, you finally put the black dog’s spirit to rest.
7 Mystery Of The Seven Wonders: School
In Lost in the Dark, you can explore the school at nighttime, discovering the seven wonders that supposedly haunt the school. After unraveling the seven wonders, you must use the knowledge you’ve gathered to confront the spirits once more - for example, closing your eyes to make the skeleton models move (creating an opening to progress), and avoiding a murderous piano as it barrels towards you.

Many of the gimmicks you must implement in this section are familiar; however, performing each in a sequence is difficult under pressure. One of the hardest parts of this sequence is maneuvering between spirits using the flashlight, as you must guide them away to reach the spirit board to progress to the next section.
6 All This For A Ring: Ghost Town
In the graveyard, Yuzu must attend to multiple graves and finds a ring that once belonged to a spirit residing there. Angered that you’ve stolen her ring, the spirit transforms into a giant head that flies towards you, killing you if she touches you.
Although maneuvering around this section is easier once you know the route the spirit takes, if you don’t preserve your stamina in critical moments, it can be difficult to stay out of the spirit’s clutches. You’ll need to listen to noise cues to ensure you know when to sprint. At the end of the sequence, you’ll need to throw a match in the right place, which can be a challenge when multiple spirits are on your tail.
5 Uncovering The Truth: Empty Building Rooftop
The empty building rooftop section has to be completed twice during the game. Completing this section without discovering Yuzu’s real memories will result in Kotori urging Yuzu to remember what really happened. To receive Yomawari’s true ending, you have to revisit the rooftop after uncovering the truth about Kotori and Mugi.
The sequence is the same the second time around; however, instead of relying on Mugi’s spirit, Yuzu can ring the bell herself. Timing is critical here, as Yuzu must avoid Kotori’s incoming attacks to successfully suppress the curse on her. It’s much easier the second time around, though, as you’re already familiar with its patterns.
4 Say Cheese: The Abandoned Ship
The spirit you encounter in the abandoned ship section has pupils that function similarly to a camera lens - its flashes have the ability to kill the water spirits, allowing you to progress. However, Yuzu can be killed in the same way, so you’ll need to hide behind something to avoid them.

The abandoned ship boss sequence is one of the longest in the game, but there are a few helpful checkpoints along the way to make things a little easier. Timing is everything in this sequence, and you might need to turn back and hide before going forwards again to stay safe and alive.
3 Not Your Usual Starfish: Port Town Cave
The beach isn’t an ideal seaside destination in Lost in the Dark, as its sea cave is inhabited by a starfish spirit made of eyeballs and sinew that can affect Yuzu’s mind and make her hallucinate. After traversing the cave, you’re pursued by this cosmic abomination and must draw star shapes on the pedestals to progress.
Although this section is relatively short compared to the tunnel filled with baby spirits, the spirit’s ability to distort Yuzu’s mind makes things more challenging. One section in particular involves the spirit reversing your controls, which can be difficult to get used to under pressure. You might die a few times trying to familiarize yourself with the inverted controls.
2 Far, Far Too Many Babies: Tunnel In The Rice Fields
During the boss sequence at the tunnel in the rice fields, Yuzu has to place scarecrow effigies into multiple shrines in order to ward off the baby spirits residing in the fields and the depths of the nearby tunnel. As you traverse the bridge, the babies’ hands and arms reach up from the abyss below, blocking the path and killing you if you get too close.
This section requires a lot of concentration as the baby spirits pursue you relentlessly, with one part even involving you having to dodge smaller baby spirits as you wait for an opening to proceed. In the last stretch, you need to preserve your stamina to outrun the outstretched hands barreling toward you. Without a checkpoint to record your progress, any slight error can cause you to have to redo the entire section, making it a relief when you eventually reach the final shrine.
1 The Final Chase: The God’s Forest
After Yuzu uncovers her real memories, she revisits the school rooftop, and performs the ritual that takes her to the forest where the god resides to meet Kotori. Yuzu and Kotori make their way to return the god’s bells and break the curse. The journey is perilous as the god captures Kotori and attacks Yuzu.
This boss sequence has two parts, the first of which is longer, making it a test of endurance. You have to avoid incoming attacks while attempting to free Kotori at the same time. The second part is shorter in comparison, although more intense. It’s an accumulation of the previous section’s dangers with even less space available, meaning you have to narrowly avoid the spirits when they target you.
