After all, most things in Phasmophobia have some use or meaning. The flicker of a light, the creaking of a door, a haunting scream. But this sink full of dirty water is never really explained. Here, we'll tell you if this site means anything in the horror game, and how to use it to your advantage.
How to get dirty water in Phasmophobia
Dirty water is caused by a ghost interacting with a sink's faucet, whether it's already filled with water or not. The chance of getting dirty water, therefore, relies on a sink being in the ghost room or a room nearby.
To increase the chances of seeing dirty water, you can remove other items from the room, thus increasing the chances that the ghost will interact with the sink and not another nearby item. You can also fill the sink with clean water yourself - the clean water turns dirty if a ghost interacts with it.
What does dirty water mean?
Dirty water doesn't actually mean anything, and does not give away the ghost type or even the ghost room. However, it is highly likely that the dirty water signals the ghost room - or a room nearby.
If you are lucky enough to be in the room when the ghost interacts with the sink, and have an EMF reader to hand, the interaction will cause a reading of 2. There is a chance it can also give a reading of 5 if that is one of the ghost's evidence types, so it's worth keeping a turned-on EMF reader next to a full sink.
Other than potentially gaining evidence of a certain ghost type, dirty water can also be used to boost your cash payout. Taking a photo of a sink filled with dirty water can reward you with up to $7. More usefully, it also counts as a unique photo on the camera, which counts towards the 'obtain three unique images on a photo camera' objective.
