Call of Duty Warzone has over six million players just 24 hours after launch, Activision has announced.

The free-to-play battle royale launched on Tuesday for those with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and as a standalone download on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

For comparison's sake, Respawn's free-to-play battle royale Apex Legends managed 2.5 million players within 24 hours, although that game went on to hit 25 million in week one.

Of course, Warzone's numbers are dwarfed by the behemoth that is Fortnite. Epic's free-to-play battle royale had an incredible 250 million players as of March 2019 - the last time the company announced a number.

Warzone has seen a strong start on Twitch, too, where high-profile streamers boosted the viewer count to over half a million concurrents this week.
