Jagex announced, as part of today's PlayStation State of Play showcase, that its survival game RuneScape: Dragonwilds will make series' history and be the first Runescape game to land on consoles - ever.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world survival crafting game, will launch on PlayStation 5 "Fall 2026" and will be available to access and download via PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, at launch. The release marks the first time in the franchise’s 25-year history that a RuneScape title has launched on console, and Jagex is calling that "a landmark moment in [our] strategy to expand the franchise to new platforms, new audiences and new markets around the world". Does this preclude a Runescape proper launch on console? Maybe.

Dragonwilds, which has been in early access since its launch in 2025, is a completely separate entity from the classic RuneScape MMORPG. The game is more focused on teaming up with other players to explore Ashenfall's varied and challenging regions, completing quests, grinding skills, slaying dragons, and surviving with sorcery. Think along the lines of Ark: Survival Evolved, Valheim, or maybe even Windrose, and you're in the right sphere.

Currently available in Steam Early Access, Dragonwilds has proved fairly popular, selling over 1 million units and building a loyal, quite involved playerbase as it continues to grow and iron out all those expected early access kinks. Jagex is keen to note that the title is the developer's "fastest-growing new release" and "a major new chapter in the future of the RuneScape franchise".

"The world of RuneScape continues to go from strength to strength after 25 years of being an icon of the MMORPG space," says Jesse America, executive producer on RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "Bringing Dragonwilds and its mix of crafting, survival, and quintessential RuneScape-ness to new platforms like PlayStation 5 is key to unleashing its magic to more players around the gaming globe."

"We're incredibly proud to have RuneScape: Dragonwilds launch on PlayStation Plus later this year. This means even more gamers can effortlessly team up and explore Ashenfall, go questing across its dangerous regions, battle dragons, skill up on more and more abilities, and ultimately survive its thrall."

There's no word on specifically when later this year we can expet to see the game beyond Fall 2026. Our own guides whisperer and resident Runescape boffin Lottie Lynn noted that the title has "a lot of promise for an early access game" and that she could even see herself sacrificing Runescape time to play it. High praise!
