Yuji Naka, the godfather of Sonic the Hedgehog, has joined Square Enix.

It's been a while since we've had an update from the prolific programmer. His own studio Prope has been largely quiet since the release of Rodea the Sky Soldier for 3DS and Wii U in 2015.

Today, Naka revealed his new employment via a post on Twitter - but was vague on the project he is working on.

The esteemed developer simply said he had jumped aboard Square Enix earlier this month:

Just a quick note to let you know, I joined SQUARE ENIX in January.
I’m joining game development as before, and strive to develop games at SQUARE ENIX.
I aim to develop an enjoyable game, please look forward to it.

Naka's name is in the credits for dozens of Sega classics throughout the '80s, '90s and 2000s: Pantasy Star, Sonic, Nights, Samba de Amigo and Billy Hatcher.

He then left Sega in 2006 to found Prope, which famously released the cardboard box-powered Let's Tap for Wii - an idea that now feels prophetically ahead of its time.
