Square Enix released an enhanced version of NieR Replicant‘s opening cinematic, showcasing the remaster’s improved graphics, soundtrack, and voice acting. “Enhanced” doesn’t fully do it justice, though.

The original NieR cinematics and trailers, including those for the Western release NieR Gestalt, are products of the time. Environments are murky and smudged, the audio is flat, and voice acting suffers from sounding too compressed.

Not so in the new NieR Replicant cinematic. It features dramatically improved visuals in addition to revamped voiceovers and a robust soundtrack, including better textures, brighter colors, and a clarity visibly missing from the original.

It’s in keeping with the development team’s desire to move away from the original game’s “rough charm” and create a brand-new experience.

While the NieR Replicant cinematic doesn’t show much gameplay, the few bits that do appear look as if they run at a smoother framerate.

NieR Replicant releases April 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, and it’s backwards compatible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you still can’t get enough of NieR Replicant, check out close to 10 minutes of NieR Replicant gameplay and even more of the improved soundtrack.
