Besides the four base styles of smithing like Vermundian, Batthal, Dwarven, and Elvish, there’s also special Wyrmfire smithing for Dragon-enhanced gear. You can unlock it early by following my guide and going to a specific location in Batthal. Here’s how to get Wyrmfire gear in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How to Unlock Wyrmfire Smithing in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You get Wyrmfire gear through Wyrmfire Smithing, which is unlocked when speaking to the Dragonforged. He’s in a cave on the Batthal Coast. Follow the map above until you reach the coast, and then descend to the beach. I recommend doing this during the day for better vision. Once you’re on the beach, continue following the map until you see a cave.

Enter the cave, where you’ll find a Rift Stone you can activate. The Dragonforged is on the left, down a hallway. Speak to him and select Enhance Equipment to unlock Wyrmfire Smithing. Now, you can craft dragon-enhanced gear using Wyrmslife Crystals. You need to have a weapon or armor piece that already has all three upgrades, and then the Dragonforged can add a special fourth Wyrmfire upgrade to the weapon, increasing its primary stat by a large flat amount. The gear piece will also have its weight halved.

For example, when I enhanced my Greatsword, which had three Vermund upgrades, the fourth Wyrmfire upgrade added a whopping 70 Strength to it. Armor pieces receive a flat defensive bonus, and Magick-oriented weapons receive a Magick bonus. The numbers vary slightly based on the smithing style upgrades you have. On average, Strength or Magick weapons usually get around a +50 to +70 flat bonus for the appropriate stat.

You’ll need 5 to 20 Wyrmslife crystals for each gear piece and you can find these by fighting Drakes. Furthermore, there are also 5 Wyrmslife crystals in the room with the Dragonforged and you get a bunch of them by defeating the False Dragon at Dragonsbreath Temple in the main quest.
