Traits are what make or break a subject in The Elder Scrolls: Castles, and good subjects are what make a great kingdom. Traits are also the most important aspect to consider when choosing a ruler, since they will extend some trait benefits to all subjects. Having trouble identifying which traits are best? S-Tier Traits
S-tier traits are the best traits in the game. You should do anything in your power to keep those subjects alive and happy.

These traits aren’t quite as good as the ones in S-tier, but they are still extremely useful. They might have a small downside or require careful planning to prove useful.

These traits aren’t particularly useful, but at least they don’t create trouble around the castle.

C-Tier traits have their downsides, but most of them can be avoided with careful workstation positioning. You should probably banish subjects with those traits once you approach the population limit.

There are only two traits in D-tier: Devious and Envious. Both are extremely bad and you should not keep subjects with those traits in your castle, unless the character also has some incredible traits.
Devious makes subjects more prone to assassinate someone in your castle, meaning that an average character might murder a great one.
Envious is the only trait in The Elder Scrolls: Castles that is extremely bad with no upside. It makes a character sad the more they work with a more efficient co-worker, massively reducing their usefulness.
Best Traits for Rulers
Traits work slightly differently for rulers. That’s why you should prioritize the following traits.
- Enduring
- Headstrong
- Mighty
- Perceptive
- Considerate
