All Stadium Hero Nerfs and Buffs – Overwatch 2 Patch May 1
The Overwatch 2 patch released on May 1st arrived without any prior teaser, delivering a sweeping hotfix focused entirely on rebalancing the Stadium mode. This surprise update adjusted multiple heroes, modified item performance, and recalibrated Stadium Cash rewards across tanks, damage dealers, and support characters. With several dominant strategies being toned down and weaker ones seeing minor improvements, the meta is poised for a noticeable shift heading into May.
D.Va and Zarya See Contrasting Tank Adjustments
D.Va’s dominance in Stadium was largely tied to the synergy between her Nano Cola™ Nitrous and Busan Blaster. Blizzard noted that these powers made it too easy for players to reclaim D.Va’s mech, reducing her intended vulnerability while unmeched. As a result, Nano Cola™ Nitrous now restores only 25 health (down from 50), provides just a 5% max life increase (down from 25%), and lasts only four seconds instead of eight. Busan Blaster has also been reworked to no longer generate ultimate charge.
Zarya, in contrast, remains a top-tier tank but saw more measured changes. Her Lifelift power, considered a must-pick, had its barrier scaling halved, dropping from 100% to 50% of bonus max life. To offset this nerf slightly, Here to Spot You now restores 20% max life over 3 seconds, up from 15%. While D.Va’s viability plummets, Zarya’s patch results in a more balanced build pool rather than outright suppression.
Orisa, Reinhardt, and Queen Enter New Territory
Orisa was another tank targeted for survivalist tendencies. The healing rate of Restorify was halved to 5% per second, and Solar Regenergy’s armor gain dropped from 5% to 3%. Reinhardt, meanwhile, was punished financially—his Stadium Cash gain from healing and damage was reduced by 13.64%. Although Reinhardt wasn’t seen as oppressive, his earnings placed him above the intended balance threshold.
Following nerfs to Orisa and Zarya, Junker Queen may now climb the rankings. While not directly affected in this patch, she is seen as a strong contender due to others falling from their high-impact roles.
Damage Dealers Lose Their Income Edge
The update also tackled overperforming DPS heroes, especially those racking up excessive Stadium Cash. Soldier: 76 had his Rocket Visor duration reduced from 0.75 to 0.5 seconds, and his cash gain was nerfed by 12.5%. Even Biotic Bullseye, often overlooked, received a buff—restoring 10% ammo per critical hit instead of 5%.
Reaper, known for close-range damage bursts, now earns 10% less cash. Mei’s knockback-heavy build was reworked to prevent continuous disruption. Her ice ball now knocks players back less frequently (60% reduction), but each hit does more damage and sends targets further. These changes turn her from a crowd-controlling pest into more of a space-creating threat.
Support Role Tweaks Aim for Variety
Support heroes weren’t exempt from adjustments. Kiriko had her Stadium Cash generation cut by 16.67%, a clear sign that her output was outperforming expectations. Meanwhile, Lucio received a mix of buffs and nerfs. His cash generation rose by 10%, but the Crowd-Pleaser healing ratio was reduced from 200% to 150% of Crossfade, and Megaphone‘s amp duration dropped from 20% to 15%.
Signature Shift was notably improved, with projectile size increased significantly (from 20% to 80%). This should enhance Lucio’s reliability in weapon-focused builds. His lesser-used B-Side Bop now grants 50 health, up from 25, making it a more attractive option.
Juno and the Stadium Meta Shakeup
Juno received one of the most dramatic overhauls in this patch. Despite being popular, her early-game performance lagged. Blizzard increased her Stadium Cash gain by 33.33% to help even the playing field. Her Cosmic Coolant now has a 0.5-second cooldown per hit (down from 1 second), making it more responsive.
Pulsar Destroyers, once a staple, lost 15% ability power but gained 10% lifesteal to retain offensive potential. Additionally, Solar Shielding’s ability power dropped from 25% to 15%. These changes tone down oppressive torpedo builds while trying to bring underused ones into relevance.
