Garu is one of the strongest Mythical units available in Anime Squadron, offering excellent survivability and powerful passive abilities that make him a valuable addition to both story and endgame teams. After Awakening, he reaches Secret rarity, gaining even greater potential for challenging content.

Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking, Awakening, and using Garu effectively.

How to Get Garu

Garu can only be obtained through the Hero Hunter Challenge.

Completing the challenge on Normal difficulty gives you a 1% chance to recruit Garu. Each run can also reward Trait Shards and EXP.

Fortunately, Garu features a pity system similar to Baras. If you haven’t obtained him through random drops, you’re guaranteed to unlock him after 100 Hero Hunter Challenge completions.

How to Awaken Garu

Garu begins as a Mythical unit but can be upgraded to Secret rarity through Awakening.

You’ll need the following materials:

Material Quantity Location Pelt 100 Marine Lobby Squadron (Chapter 1) Behelit 100 Eclipse (Before) Squadron (Chapter 1) Headband 100 Ninja Village Squadron (Chapter 1) Black Sun Amber 10 Eclipse (Before) Story (Chapters 9–10) Chakra Fragment 10 Ninja Village Story (Chapters 9–10) King’s Haki Residue 10 Marine Lobby Story (Chapters 9–10) Hunter’s Cloth 1 Hero Hunter Challenge (Hard) Gold 7,500 Story and Squadron stages

Some evolution materials can also be purchased from the Merchant. During Admin Abuse events, developers occasionally distribute these materials for free as part of update celebrations and player milestone rewards.

Garu’s Passive Abilities

Garu specializes in staying alive during long battles while increasing both his own damage and the effectiveness of his teammates.

Brink of Death

When Garu would normally be defeated, he instead survives and restores 10% of his HP.

If he remains alive for the next three seconds, every Garu currently deployed receives the following buffs:

  • +15% Accuracy
  • -15% Cooldown
  • Applies Corruption for 5 seconds, dealing damage over time

These bonuses can stack up to three times.

Reflect

Garu is completely immune to stun effects.

Whenever an enemy attempts to stun him:

  • The nearest allied unit gains 10% Defense.
  • The attacker immediately takes damage equal to 65% of Garu’s base damage.

This passive turns enemy crowd control into an advantage for your team.

Prolonging

Landing three consecutive attacks on the same target applies the Marked status for 10 seconds.

Each additional set of three hits refreshes the timer. While Marked does not stack, it enhances Corruption by:

  • Increasing Corruption damage by 5% per tick
  • Extending the debuff duration by 5 seconds

This makes Garu especially effective during prolonged boss encounters.

Hero Hunter

Garu’s damage scales with enemy debuffs.

He deals:

  • 15% additional damage for every status effect affecting an enemy.
  • 20% additional damage per status effect against enemies already afflicted with Marked.

Because of this passive, Garu performs exceptionally well alongside units that constantly apply debuffs.

Is Garu Worth Using?

Garu is one of Anime Squadron’s strongest frontline damage dealers thanks to his combination of survivability, scaling damage, and team utility. His ability to survive lethal attacks, ignore stun effects, and deal increasing damage against debuffed enemies makes him a reliable pick for both long boss fights and difficult endgame content.

Although obtaining him can take time due to his low drop rate, the 100-run guarantee ensures every dedicated player can eventually add this powerful unit to their roster.
