With Wanderer: Fragments of Fate, Civilization 7, Resist, and Pinball FX already available this April, the month has delivered some strong early VR titles. However, there’s still a lot left to cover — from controversial updates to new releases and promising announcements. Here’s everything happening in the world of VR games this April.
Meta Pushes Horizon Worlds to All Quest Users
Meta’s latest version 76 update now automatically installs Horizon Worlds on every Quest headset and removes the ability to uninstall it. This move frustrated many users who previously deleted the app to avoid the constant stream of Horizon advertisements. Horizon Worlds has often been criticized for hosting low-quality experiences, clickbait thumbnails, and a community full of unsupervised kids.
Forcing an app that’s received mixed reactions may not improve user retention or satisfaction. Instead, most VR users would rather hear about new VR and MR games or updates to their existing library.
Frenzies Skips PSVR 2, Targets Younger Quest Audience
Endreams recently announced that Frenzies, their upcoming online shooter, will launch as a free-to-play title but skip PSVR 2 entirely. This sparked backlash from PSVR 2 fans online, many of whom argued in favor of high-fidelity adult experiences on the platform. However, the game’s visual tone — filled with rainbows and dancing pigs — clearly aligns better with the younger Quest audience.
The studio also teased a new PSVR 2 title, suggesting that skipping Frenzies might allow them to deliver a more suitable and mature game for hardcore VR gamers down the line.
Upcoming Vr Games and New Content Arriving Soon
Aces of Thunder: PC VR Early Access
Upload VR got early access to the PC VR version of Aces of Thunder. Despite its stunning visuals, early impressions noted its strong resemblance to War Thunder, which already supports VR for free. Still, fans are curious about how the campaign and haptic support will play out, especially if it eventually comes to PSVR 2.
Out of Sight Launching Simultaneously in VR
FlatVR will launch Out of Sight, a horror adventure game, for PCVR and Quest next month. In it, players control Sophie, a blind girl who sees through her teddy bear’s eyes. Set in a creepy mansion filled with puzzles, this VR experience promises an atmospheric, narrative-heavy escape.
Vertigo 2: Into the Ether DLC
Vertigo 2’s DLC, titled Into the Ether, launches April 25 for PC VR. This expansion takes players on an interdimensional journey through ancient voids. New weapons, enemies, and the standout Void Grappler tool aim to significantly shift gameplay by allowing players to latch onto almost any surface.
Besiege and Beatable Offer Fresh Experiences
Besiege, a physics-based sandbox game with a 50-stage campaign, lands on Quest next month. Players will craft medieval war machines to crush armies — a great match for immersive VR.
Meanwhile, Beatable, a rhythm-based game by XR Games (developers of Zombieland and Hitman 3 VR), delivers surprising challenge and simplicity. With intuitive gameplay and potential music collaborations on the horizon, it may be one to watch.
Horror and Strategy Add Depth to This Month’s VR Lineup
Ghost Town by Bulletproof Games has generated high hopes. Known for The Room, the studio aims to top its previous success with another escape room-style game featuring witch-turned-exorcist Edith Penrose. Launching April 24 on Quest, other platforms will follow later this year.
Silent North, currently in alpha, is a PvP/PvE horror survival shooter by Combat Waffle. Reactions have been mixed so far, but updates and community feedback may help polish the experience.
Lastly, Obsessive Shadow introduces players to a horror tale where a 9-year-old boy named Liam navigates a dark home armed with just a flashlight. With his mother’s confusing phone guidance and a looming shadow figure, this psychological horror could stand out for fans of suspense.
