Blacklist International MLBB Team Officially Disbands, Here’s Why
The dynasty tripped and finally fell after their successful runs in the national and international tournaments. Blacklist International finally exits MPL Philippines leaving the community with a great legacy. But what pushed Blacklist International MLBB to come up with this decision?
The Golden Years of Blacklist International
They humbly started their journey in MPL Philippines Season 5 way back in 2020. However, Blacklist International was quick to grow its popularity and it became an underdog to now, legends. This era began after the carry-support duo, “VeeWise”, arrived on the team and took charge of preparation.
With OhMyV33NUS, Wise, Edward, Oheb, and Hadji, Blacklist began their period of dominance as a team. Their achievements alone are a testament to how they’ve changed the competitive scene in the Philippines. From back-to-back MPL Philippines championships, they also secured the 2021 MLBB World Championship or M3.
Even with challenges, their team stood competitive against fellow Filipino team, ECHO, during the M4 World Championship. This makes up how great their Dynasty has been for a period.
Byes after Bye in Player Roster
But what can go wrong if this team is decorated and has talented players signed in? Well, one of the biggest factors in their disbandment was the player exodus that happened in July 2024. Even if they were highly successful before, most of the players and staff left for Aurora Gaming.
From OhMyV33nus, Wise, Yue, Edward, Renejay, Master the Basics, to Dexter, all have bid goodbye to the team. Despite that, they still did well for MPL Season 14 in a fourth-place finish. While these close the doors for Blacklist International MLBB, another opens in the form of Aurora Gaming.
Shift Goes Beyond Esports
In the Blacklist International MLBB official statement, they shared the reason why they came up with such a decision. According to them, the exit was done in consideration of the strategic business opportunity. It seems that Tier One Entertainment, the one handling Blacklist, seeks to expand its influence beyond the esports realm.
They are in search of exploring new directions following their departure from the MPL Philippines. In their statement, they shared that they bid a bittersweet farewell to the future of the MLBB community. However, this does not mean to be permanent as they can opt to return anytime soon in the league.
A Lasting Impact on MLBB Esports
You can never deny the impact that this team brought in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. In fact, their departure is one of the shocks and might be the biggest to come. Afterall, Blacklist International has one of the largest fan bases when it comes to the MLBB community.
Globally, they were the third-most-watched esports team, especially after attracting attention with their “UBE” strategy. This alone inspires many of the fans and communities to adapt and apply this strategy to their gameplays.
Besides their three MPL Philippines championships from seasons 7, 8 and 10, they are also World title holders. Plus, they were consistent global talents from dominating the international stage several times. In the letter, they thanked all the agents for their undying support until the very end of their franchise.
Final Thoughts
It is a shame to see a great team close a chapter in their MPL Philippines adventure. To many, Blacklist International will go down in the MLBB history as one of the best teams to exists. For now, Tier One Entertainment will explore more esports opportunities ahead the year 2025.
