Bad news, Edgerunners fans! We apparently aren’t going back to Night City for a second season. Although the show sold out and brought a whole new crowd to Cyberpunk 2077, the developers behind the game have confirmed that there are no future episodes planned. Okay, bummer, right? But hey, they want to make much more anime down the road, so we hope there will be something awesome later on anyway. If you’re wondering the reason why, this is for you!
Edgerunners: A One-Season Wonder
Cyberpunk 2077 totally exploded in popularity after the awesome Netflix show, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, came out. The show follows the same world as the game but with a whole new set of street-level crime and amazing body upgrades. Even though everyone wants more Edgerunners, it sounds like the plan was always just for one season.
The Future is Uncertain
Here is the deal: We all liked Edgerunners and want more but it was never intended to be a one-and-done thing. Its developers are open to performing much more anime in the Cyberpunk universe, but have not committed to a 2nd season. They’re still excited about the whole anime thing and want to keep working with Japanese studios on new projects. So, who knows? Maybe we’ll get another Cyberpunk anime, just not necessarily another Edgerunners.
A Grim Outlook for Season 2
If you watched the Edgerunners, you know things ended pretty badly for most of the characters. Almost everyone died, except Lucy. So, bringing back the same crew for a second season would be tough. If they did continue to create other Edgerunners, it would likely be a whole new cast with a different story, but that was not what they originally envisioned doing.
Conclusion
That is it! While the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners stormed the world and left us wanting more – and we may never get another season of it. It was supposed to be a stand-alone story – and after that horrible end you can’t imagine writing the same storyline again. But hey, there’s always hope for a future Cyberpunk anime movie! For the time being, let us celebrate that incredible story we received and hope for the very best.
