Imoroving in Fortnite requires strategy, awareness, and avoiding common mistakes that cost matches. From overusing the bat to mismanaging gold, players often make errors that hinder success. This guide highlights key Fortnite mistakes, helping players refine their approach, maximize resources, and improve decision-making to stay ahead in every game.
Overusing the Bat in the Wrong Situations
Many players rely too much on the bat, using it in situations where it isn’t effective. While it’s undoubtedly one of the best items in the game, it doesn’t fit every scenario. Charging at an opponent with no initial damage or blindly chasing someone using shock waves often results in failure. While there is a situation where using the bat on a full-health enemy can work, forcing its use in every fight makes engagements unnecessarily difficult.
Misplaced Priority on Loot Island and Shogun X
Last season, Loot Island was crucial because it provided a Medallion that granted unlimited sprint and invisibility while sprinting. However, this season’s Medallion from Shogun X only provides a shield bubble when healing, which isn’t even strong enough to last through using a big pot. Fighting Shogun X for this Medallion isn’t worthwhile, especially when good loot is readily available. His Mythic Hollow Twister AR is decent, but by the fourth zone, players often already have high-rarity weapons. Instead of prioritizing this fight, controlling the island and eliminating distracted players can be a better strategy.
Worrying Too Much About Gold
Gold is incredibly easy to accumulate this season, especially by breaking objects inside vaults, which yield over 1,000 gold. The safes at various POIs have also been reworked, allowing players to break the floor underneath them to collect the gold instantly. Given the abundance of gold, players should feel free to spend it without concern, especially in black markets where valuable high-rarity weapons can be purchased early in the game.
Failing to utilize the black market is a major mistake. Black markets allow players to buy high-rarity weapons using Dill Bits, which are earned from robbing vaults. Some players hesitate to spend 600 gold on a single weapon, but given how easy it is to earn gold back this season, investing in black market items is highly beneficial. However, these locations are not always safe, and players should be prepared for encounters when entering or exiting them. Camping inside to eliminate unsuspecting shoppers can also be a viable strategy.
Fighting on Mountain Tops Without Awareness
Fighting on mountain tops is particularly risky due to the bat’s knockback effect. Players can be knocked off and eliminated by fall damage. To counter this, avoid engaging in fights on mountains whenever possible. If a fight is unavoidable, having a car nearby can help mitigate fall damage, as getting into the vehicle can absorb some of the impact.
Sprite Shrines, which were overlooked last season, provide guaranteed shock waves when activated. With mobility being essential in this season’s meta, utilizing these shrines can greatly improve a player’s ability to reposition and escape bad situations. Running out of mobility options can be detrimental, so consistently using Sprite Shrines ensures players always have shock waves available.
Rushing Vaults Too Early
Many players land directly at vault POIs and rush to open them immediately, which is a major mistake. Unlike previous seasons where vaults could be accessed quickly and discreetly, this season’s vaults require multiple steps and take time to unlock. Instead of rushing, players should clear out enemies in the area first. Waiting until the POI is quieter reduces the risk of being third-partied while attempting to access the vault.
Not Using Visual Audio
The “Visualized Sound Effects” setting in the audio menu is a crucial tool this season, especially with the background music at vaults making it harder to hear enemy movements. Enabling this feature provides on-screen indicators for footsteps and other sounds, improving awareness. While it won’t detect crouched enemies, it still offers a significant advantage in chaotic environments.
