The Manta Ray is one of the rarest pets introduced during Week 2 of the Summer Event in Grow a Garden. Unlike most event pets, it isn’t obtained from an egg or purchased directly. Instead, players must use the new pet bartering feature and rely on luck to unlock this Mythical companion.

Here’s how to get the Manta Ray and what makes it worth chasing.

How to Unlock the Manta Ray

The only way to obtain the Manta Ray during the Summer Event is through the Pearl Smith.

Located on one of the event islands, the Pearl Smith allows players to exchange one of their pets. After handing over a pet, it is transformed into a Pearl, which becomes available to open one hour later.

Opening the completed Pearl can reward one of three outcomes:

  • Coastal Eggs
  • Pelican
  • Manta Ray

The Manta Ray is the rarest reward available, with only a 1% chance of appearing. The Pelican has a 4% drop rate, while most Pearls contain between one and six Coastal Eggs.

If your Pearl doesn’t contain a Manta Ray or Pelican, you’ll receive Coastal Eggs instead. These eggs can hatch into the following pets:

Can You Get the Manta Ray Any Other Way?

Outside of the Pearl Smith, the only way to obtain a Manta Ray is through trading with another player.

Players looking to avoid the low 1% drop rate can browse offers at the Farmers Market or negotiate trades directly with other gardeners.

Manta Ray Ability

The Mythical Manta Ray comes with the Ray of Renewal passive ability.

When activated, the Manta Ray glides across your garden, affecting nearby crops, plants, and pets. During its pass, it can:

  • Apply the Wet or Tidal mutation to fruits.
  • Grant bonus experience to pets it passes.
  • Speed up the growth of nearby plants.

Because its ability benefits multiple parts of a garden at once, the Manta Ray is one of the most valuable support pets introduced during the Summer Event. While its 1% drop rate makes it difficult to obtain, players willing to use the Pearl Smith regularly—or secure a favorable trade—have a chance to add this exclusive Mythical pet to their collection before the event ends.
