Finding Uxmal in the Temple of Chaos

First, you need to make your way through the Temple of Chaos in Act Three before facing Uxmal. Then, you’ll be presented with three Trials of Chaos that you need to complete first. Each trial forces you to choose a negative effect that will affect you throughout your run. So, your choice will really be critical in ensuring your victory once you’ve encountered Uxmal.

After passing through the third challenge, Uxmal will appear as the fourth challenge for the Trial of Chaos sequence. Reaching up to this point may be more challenging than the actual fight. Best to make sure you stay alive as dying on the way resets your progress to the start.

Where to Fight Uxmal

There are three distinct levels you’ll encounter in the Uxmal Arena. Each level is associated with a specific elemental attack and ground effect you have to be wary of:

  • Third Level (Near Exit): Flying Fire Breath attacks that leave temporary Burning Ground which causes Ignite effects
  • Second Level (Middle Section): Ice Breath attacks creating temporary Chilled Ground, slowing down your movements.
  • First Level (Swamp Section): Lightning Ball attacks leaving permanent Shocked Ground that increases your damage taken

You’ll have to understand these arena sections as Uxmal frequently flies between these. As you need to chase this Beastlord Boss, you have to adapt your strategy carefully.

How Does Uxmal Attacks

Path of Exile 2 Uxmal encounter presents a variety of attacks that can inflict significant effects on players. Each has specific tells and Counter-strategies you should be aware of to successfully defeat this boss:

Physical Attacks

  • Slam: Uxmal roars then lifts its front legs before displaying a red indicator above its head. Simply roll or step away to avoid this medium-damage attack.
  • Bite: This is a relatively weak attack used when you’re in close range. It shouldn’t be too threatening when with decent physical armor.

Elemental Attacks

  • Fireball: Uxmal rears up and sparks fire in its central mouth before launching a fireball. You can dodge this by moving horizontally.
  • Flying Fire Breath: Uxmal’s most dangerous attack as it flies into the air and breathes fire below. This deals massive damage and leaves fire effects on the ground.
  • Standing Fire Breath: Creates a fire cone in front of Uxmal with minimal telegraphing. You should circle to the side or behind for a damage opportunity.
  • Poison Tail: Fires poison darts that damage on contact and create poison ground effects. You can stay close or move far away to avoid the attack.
  • Ice Breath: A red indicator flashes before Uxmal breathes at the ground, creating an ice field that damages and slows. Move away immediately when you see the warning.
  • Lightning Ball: Uxmal spits lightning balls from all three mouths, leaving lightning ground effects when they dissipate. You can choose to dodge between them or behind Uxmal.

How to Defeat Beastlord Uxmal

Strategizing will be your key to victory in your encounter with Uxmal. You have to take into consideration its varying attacks alongside the arena level’s difficulty.

  1. Utilize your damage-over-time effects as Uxmal spends time flying between arena sections. This deals consistent damage while Uxmal takes time to reposition.
  2. Keep yourself moving throughout the arena. Uxmal frequently changes positions between the three floors in the arena. You need to constantly reposition with the tracking red orb attack. Plus, you need to quickly evade any area-of-effect attacks.
  3. Your encounter with Uxmal can last 20 minutes or longer for some builds. You have to make sure to prioritize survival over any risky damage opportunities. Dying would only lead to a restart of your entire progress in Temple of Chaos.
  4. Don’t immediately use your healing flasks after heavy damage. Retreating to a safe distance to restore your health is a better choice since Uxmal rarely chases players.

Final Thoughts

Path of Exile 2 Uxmal is actually one of the fun, challenging unique encounters that they’ll face throughout the game. The map adds to the difficulty as it allows Uxmal to fly between sections, making it seem like a huge playground. Still, your victory will depend on your strategy and its execution.
