Chromite is one of the most important endgame resources in Palworld, serving as a key ingredient for crafting Hexolite, an advanced material used in many of the game’s strongest weapons, armor, and technology. Unlike standard ores, Chromite doesn’t appear in visible deposits, making it much more difficult to locate. Fortunately, with the right tools and route, farming it becomes far more efficient.
Where to Find Chromite
Chromite is found exclusively on Feybreak Island. Rather than spawning as exposed ore veins, it is buried beneath the ground and must be detected before it can be mined.
Although hidden deposits can occasionally appear on the surface, the most reliable sources are found in:
- Caves
- Dungeons
- Alpha Pal boss arenas
- The island’s volcanic regions
Underground locations are particularly rewarding since multiple Chromite deposits can spawn within a single cave. Once uncovered, the ore can be mined with a Pickaxe or harvested by a Pal with Mining work suitability.
How to Detect Hidden Chromite
There are two reliable methods for locating buried Chromite.
Use a Metal Detector
The Metal Detector unlocks at Technology Level 58. When equipped, it emits an audible signal whenever hidden metal deposits are nearby. As you move closer to a Chromite node, the detector beeps more rapidly until you’ve pinpointed its location.
This makes it the standard tool for searching both surface areas and underground caves.
Bring Smokie
Smokie, a Dark-type Pal introduced alongside Feybreak Island, offers an even better solution.
Its Partner Skill automatically detects and uncovers nearby Chromite deposits without relying solely on the Metal Detector. In addition, Smokie increases the amount of Chromite collected from each node, making it one of the best companions for dedicated farming runs.
How to Get Smokie
Wild Smokie can be found roaming the northeastern region of Feybreak Island, where it can be captured like any other Pal.
Players looking for a stronger version can also challenge the Alpha Smokie inside the Sealed Realm of the Little Hero. Accessing this boss requires defeating several other Field Alpha Pals first, including:
- Glidane
- Warsect Terra
- Kitsun Noct
Because of these prerequisites, the Alpha encounter is better suited for high-level players.
After capturing Smokie, unlock Smokie’s Harness at Technology Level 56 to activate its Partner Skill while exploring.
Best Chromite Farming Locations
The following caves consistently contain multiple Chromite deposits and are among the best places to farm the resource.
Location Coordinates Shield Dragon Tunnel -970, -977 Dark Flame Tunnel -1052, -1209 Bloodstained Tunnel -1206, -1388 Crystalized Tunnel -910, -1318Each of these caves can contain up to four Chromite deposits. Players using a fully condensed Smokie can collect significantly more Chromite from every node, making these locations ideal for repeat farming.
Best Chromite Farming Route
An efficient farming loop begins by fast traveling to Feybreak Island with a fast ground mount.
Keep the Metal Detector equipped while riding, since it continues working as you travel. Whenever it signals a nearby deposit:
- Stop and dismount.
- Summon Smokie.
- Reveal the buried Chromite.
- Mine the deposit.
- Continue to the next location.
The volcanic terrain surrounding Scorched Hill is particularly productive, with numerous buried deposits hidden among cliffs, rock formations, and roads.
For maximum efficiency, combine surface farming with cave runs. After clearing several caves, rotate between different areas while waiting for deposits to respawn.
What Is Chromite Used For?
Chromite’s primary purpose is producing Hexolite in the Gigantic Furnace.
Each Hexolite bar requires:
- Chromite
- Hexolite Quartz
- Ore
Hexolite is an essential component in many of Palworld’s most advanced crafting recipes, including powerful armor sets, energy-based weapons, and other late-game equipment.
Since these recipes often consume large quantities of Hexolite, building a healthy stockpile of Chromite early will save considerable time once you begin crafting endgame gear.
