How to Get the Tarandus the Ashen Armor Set in Crimson Desert
The Tarandus the Ashen Armor Set was introduced in Crimson Desert’s 1.13 update, giving players a distinctive outfit inspired by the formidable Tarandus the Ashen boss. Featuring white-and-gold armor, leather accents, and an antlered helmet, it’s one of the game’s most striking cosmetic sets. However, collecting the full outfit requires completing several different activities spread across the world.
Tarandus the Ashen Armor Set Locations
The set consists of five separate pieces obtained through boss rewards, vendors, and challenge completions.

The chest piece is earned by defeating Tarandus the Ashen during the Ashen Warrior faction quest.
Follow this quest path:
Faction Quests → Pailune → Odeck Tribe → Executioner of Justice → Ashen Warrior
The Odeck Tribe questline becomes available after completing enough faction missions in Pailune. Once you’ve finished The Black Bears and the Red Smoke, the Ashen Warrior quest unlocks, allowing you to challenge Tarandus the Ashen and claim the armor.
How to Get The Ashen’s Plate Helmet
After defeating Tarandus the Ashen, the helmet becomes available for purchase.
Visit Craig, the Back Alley merchant located just south of Odeck in the northwestern region of the map. His shop sits beside the road north of the nearby Abyss Nexus and south of the river entering the settlement.
The helmet costs 39.64 Silver.
How to Get The Ashen’s Leather Boots
The boots are awarded for completing the Caves Exploration Log Life Challenge.
To finish this objective, you’ll need to discover 100 caves throughout the world. Crimson Desert contains a total of 136 caves, so there is some flexibility in which locations you explore.
The challenge is activated through the corresponding Sealed Abyss Artifact, located northwest of Pailune on a rocky outcrop west of the Silver Wolf Mountains map marker.
Since there are no shortcuts, simply exploring while progressing through the game will naturally contribute toward the requirement.
How to Get The Ashen’s Plate Gloves
The gloves are earned by completing the On a Storm of Beasts training challenge.
To begin, locate the required Sealed Abyss Artifact inside an altar in Odeck, just north of the Odeck Floodgates.
Before attempting the challenge, you’ll need to unlock the Back Hang ability by upgrading the Grappling skill to Level 4.
Once that’s done:
- Find a bear.
- Jump onto its back using Back Hang.
- Stay attached for at least 10 seconds.
A reliable bear spawn can be found northwest of the Sanctum of Penitence in southeastern Hernand near an Abyss Nexus.
Using Focus Palm while attached helps keep the bear stunned, making it much easier to remain on its back until the challenge is complete.
How to Get The Ashen’s Leather Cloak
The cloak is rewarded for completing the Tiny Citizens of Grasslands Life Challenge.
To unlock it, you’ll need to obtain all 76 insect and arthropod knowledge entries.
The challenge begins after interacting with the appropriate Sealed Abyss Artifact, located southeast of Odeck’s Back Alley Shop and north of the Beast Hunter’s Camp.
Two items make this objective significantly easier:
- Helm of Knowledge, found at the Scholastone Institute, helps locate missing butterflies.
- Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack, unlocked after completing the Sanctum of Oblation, automatically gathers insects while exploring.
Many of the rarer butterfly species can be found east of Odeck, making that area a good place to finish the collection.
