The line between responsibility and deception stands almost as thin as a strand of hair. Among the enthralling quests in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is “The Heirloom,” a story that revolves around family inheritance, betrayal, and the burden of choice. This side quest drops players into a mystery of secret treasures and moral dilemmas that’ll break you and Henry’s determination.
Starting the Quest
Before you start this mission, you must go ahead and finish the main quest Speak of the Devil. When that’s done, you go to Mikush’s hut during the day. The hut is on the western side of the village of Bylany, where Svatava Mikush, the wife of the missing tailor Mikush, is having a word with another villager.
After talking to Svatava, the quest will start. She wants to tell you about her husband’s mysterious disappearance and asks you for help in finding him.
Finding and Saving Mikush
After so long chatting with Svatava Mikush, Mikush’s wife suggests going to Bylany in search of news regarding her husband. At the tavern in Bylany, you must converse with Chernik concerning Mikush’s whereabouts. Depending on how you choose to approach this, you can pass speech checks, pay him, or play dice in order to pry the information out of him. Chernik claims that Mikush had a fight over the dice and directs you toward Drat.
Drat, found near the huntsman’s house north of the tavern, requires persistence during dialogue. After a series of persuasion checks, he finally opens up and gives information about where Mikush was last seen.
Following those directions, Henry is led to a crossroads southwest of Bylany. There he discovers telltale signs like bloodstains and the hat belonging to Mikush, urging him further into the forest. Henry comes across a white tent next to a stream, and here Mikush is recovering from an injury under the company of some very aggressive bandits. Combat is inevitable here because defeating the bandits permits Henry to approach Mikush and check on his status.
Mikush needs immediate attention to his wounds. Cleaning the wounds with alcohol (at the campfire), treating it with Feverfew herbs (which can be found very close by), and then administering a potion such as Strong Marigold Decoction or Aqua Vitalis, which can be taken from the tent’s chest, is needed for Henry to treat him successfully. After bandaging his wounds, the rest will depend on good care. Even though he might die from wounds, the quest can still be continued.
Recovering and Returning the Family Treasure
After the rescue, Henry has to rush back to Svatava’s hut to save Vendula from the bandits seeking her life. The players have two options: either try to negotiate with the bandits by passing skill checks or simply pay them. Whatever is the case, keeping Svatava and Vendula alive becomes highly important before advancing to the quest’s next phase.
Once Mikush was stabilized and the family had been safeguarded, Svatava unveiled the buried inheritance near the town of Mesoles. With that, a treasure hunt began in the former residence of Mikush, in the charred remnants of Mesoles. Henry finds a dig site through clues of a handcart and disturbed ground near the edge of the forest. The decision now arises whether to give all, part, or none of the inheritance to Svatava. While the returning of items would net 60 Groschen and EXP, withholding items may also lead to varying narrative outcomes.
Conclusion
Between battling bandits and wild beasts, the ultimate challenge you’ll have to face is your own conscience. But what truth will you uncover in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s “The Heirloom”? Will you walk away in honor, or will gold seep its way into your judgment? It’s all up to you, but this quest will surely leave you pondering what it means to be a hero.
