The newly added CA-87 Jawa Scatter Blaster is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about weapons in the current Fortnite zero build season. It features the highest base damage of any shotgun in the game, with a unique drawback: it can only fire one shot before overheating. The cooldown time is 2.2 seconds, making missed shots especially punishing. For this reason, it performs best in build mode, where players can reset quickly after a whiffed shot. In zero build, however, missing your one attempt can often mean losing the fight.

The shotgun also carries one of the lowest headshot multipliers at 1.25. For example, the common version deals 146 to the body and only 170 to the head, making the added damage for landing a headshot relatively minor. At legendary rarity, it delivers 179 body damage and 190 on a max headshot. Because of this small differential, it’s usually better to aim center mass to maximize pellet contact and ensure consistent high damage.

Range and Loadout Limitations in Fortnite Zero Build

Unlike the Ranger Shotgun, which had a tighter pellet spread, decent range, and a faster reload cycle, the Jawa Shotgun forces close-quarters engagements. Its wider spread and poor range make chip-damage playstyles ineffective. Players must commit fully, getting right in the enemy’s face and landing a perfect shot. This creates a much more aggressive and risky playstyle.

Another issue is loadout synergy. The Jawa Shotgun often requires players to carry a strong spray weapon like the F11, CR2 SMG, or DLT-19 as a follow-up. Since the 2.2-second cooldown leaves a gap between shots, swapping quickly to finish fights becomes essential. Unfortunately, this also means sacrificing either a long-range option or mobility. Compared to the ACP Shotgun—which offers versatility and smoother weapon flow—the Jawa can feel more restrictive.

Optimal Playstyle and Inventory Pairing

To make the most out of the Jawa Shotgun, players should:

  • Aim for body shots to get the most consistent damage output.

  • Pair it with a strong SMG (like the F11) or a marksman rifle (such as the IQ A11) to maintain pressure after firing.

  • Consider Shockwaves or other mobility tools, especially since they are easier to obtain again with air sprites at shrines.

  • Open fights with AR tags to soften up enemies before committing to the shotgun shot.

Players using this weapon should build their loadout around it. A recommended setup could include the Jawa Scatter Blaster, F11 SMG, IQ A11 Marksman Rifle, Shockwaves, and Heals. This combination prioritizes burst initiation and fight resets while maintaining offensive potential after the shotgun’s shot.

CA- 87 Jawa vs. ACP Shotgun

The CA-87 Jawa Scatter Blaster has the raw power to end fights instantly. But that power comes with significant cost. The long cooldown, limited range, and loadout demands mean it may not suit every player. Those who enjoy calculated, one-shot eliminations and can build or reposition quickly will thrive with it. However, players looking for flexibility, faster follow-ups, or easier inventory balance may prefer the ACP Shotgun.

While the Jawa may not be the best shotgun universally, it’s arguably the most lethal in the right hands. Just be ready to commit—and have a backup plan ready.
