Ancient Ruins is the third map in Bring Back The Sun on Roblox, and it has by far the trickiest puzzle in the game so far. There’s a counting puzzle involving pillars, haystacks, and a wheel stone that genuinely took me a while to crack the first time through, plus a lock pick minigame and a multi-step item chain to track down a golden wheat.

I played through the whole thing and figured out exactly how the code puzzle works, so you don’t have to spend nearly as much time on it as I did.

If you’d rather follow along visually, here’s the full video walkthrough:

Full Walkthrough: Bring Back The Sun! ANCIENT RUINS

Step 1: Read the Book and Learn What You Need

When you spawn into Ancient Ruins, the first thing to do is find and read the book sitting in the area. It tells you that you need two key items to complete this map: a golden wheat and a bucket of water.

Keep both of those in mind, because the rest of the map is essentially built around tracking them down.

Step 2: Press the Four Buttons Around the Room

To start working toward the bucket of water, you first need to press four buttons scattered around the room. They’re not hidden particularly well, but you do need to walk around and check each corner.

Once all four buttons are pressed, a text panel will appear with the clue for the next puzzle. This is where things get a little tricky.

Step 3: The Pillar, Haystack, and Wheel Stone Code

This is the puzzle that takes the most time to figure out, so let’s break it down properly.

The text panel gives you three categories: columns, haystacks, and wheel stone. Each one represents a digit in the code, but you have to know what they’re actually referring to.

columns refers to the pillars around the room. Count them carefully — there are six pillars total. One of the pillars has a fallen piece that looks like it could be a separate pillar, but it’s actually part of another one, so don’t count it twice.

Haystacks are exactly what they sound like — count the haystacks placed around the room. There are seven of them in total.

Wheel stone is the confusing one. It’s not referring to multiple wheels — it’s referring to a specific wheel-shaped wood structure in the well. There’s only one of these in the whole map, so the count for this one is just one.

So at this point you have three numbers: six pillars, seven haystacks, and one wheel stone.

Step 4: Apply the Math to Get the Real Code

Here’s the part that catches most people off guard — those three numbers aren’t the actual code. You need to flip the panel over and read the back side, which gives you two rules to apply.

The first rule says to add two to every even number. Since six is even, it becomes eight.

The second rule says to add one to every odd number. Seven is odd, so it becomes eight. One is also odd, so it becomes two.

Putting it together, six becomes eight, seven becomes eight, and one becomes two. That gives you the final code: 882.

Step 5: Enter the Code and Get the Lock Pick

Head over to the keypad and enter 882. This unlocks a container, but instead of getting straight to the bucket, you’ll find you need a lock pick to proceed further.

The lock pick is hidden inside one of the haystacks. Click on it and you’ll get the lock pick.

Step 6: Complete the Lock Pick Minigame

Use the lock pick on the lock and you’ll trigger a minigame. You need to complete this minigame a total of three times in a row to succeed.

It’s not overly difficult, just take your time on each attempt. Completing all three rounds will reward you with an empty bucket.

Step 7: Fill the Bucket with Water

Remember, the book specifically asked for a bucket with water, not an empty one. So the next step is filling it up.

This part is simple. Head over to the wall with the wheel and click on it to start turning the wheel. Wait a few seconds for the water to start flowing, and the bucket will automatically fill up once it’s in range.

That’s your first item sorted — the bucket of water.

Step 8: Collect the Stone Hay and Unlock the Secret Key

Now onto the second item, the golden wheat. To start this chain, look around for a stone hay item in the area and pick it up.

There’s a statue nearby holding a similar stone hay. Give your stone hay to the statue, and in response, it will reveal a secret key hidden behind it.

Collect that secret key.

Step 9: Open the Mysterious Box and Plant the Golden Seed

Use the secret key to open the mysterious box in the area. Inside, you’ll find a golden seed.

Take the golden seed and plant it in the bud spot nearby. Give it a moment, and it will grow into the golden wheat you need.

Step 10: Place Both Items to Complete the Map

You now have both items the book asked for — the golden wheat and the bucket of water.

Place the golden wheat in its designated spot, then place the bucket of water in its spot as well. Once both items are placed correctly, the room is solved and the Ancient Ruins map is complete.

Tips for Ancient Ruins

The pillar and haystack counting puzzle is the one most players get stuck on. Take your time walking around the full room before locking in your counts — it’s easy to miscount the pillars if you don’t notice the fallen piece that doesn’t count as a separate one.

Don’t enter the raw counts into the keypad. Always check the back of the text panel for the even and odd number rules before assuming you have the final code.

The lock pick minigame needs to be completed three separate times, not once. If you only do it once and nothing happens, that’s why — keep going until you’ve done all three rounds.

Final Thoughts

Ancient Ruins ramps up the difficulty quite a bit compared to the first two maps. The pillar and haystack code is genuinely the trickiest puzzle in the game so far, mostly because it’s not obvious at first that the raw counts aren’t the actual answer.

Once you know to flip the panel and apply the even and odd number rules, everything clicks into place fast. The rest of the map — the lock pick minigame, the stone hay exchange, and growing the golden wheat — all follows a pretty logical sequence from there.

Good luck out there, and stay tuned for more Bring Back The Sun walkthroughs as new maps drop.
