BetBoom Team rout Nigma Galaxy to make Dota 2 Esports World Cup semifinals
BetBoom Team complete the final four teams of the Dota 2 Esports World Cup alongside Vici Gaming, PARIVISION, and Team Yandex.
Eastern European Dota 2 powerhouse BetBoom Team are through to the semifinals of the Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 Playoffs after they soundly swept fan-favourites Nigma Galaxy, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
With their victory, BetBoom have guaranteed themselves at least a Top 4 finish as well as US$120,000 in winnings. They will next face Chinese squad Vici Gaming, who are coming off a massive upset over Team Falcons, in the semifinals for a spot in the championship round.
With tournament favourites PARIVISION and Team Yandex on the other side of the bracket, BetBoom now have a clear path to the grand finals. With that said, their semifinals opponent cannot be underestimated. In addition to their most recent upset victory over Falcons, Vici Gaming previously defied expectations by taking down another tournament favourite in 1w Team in the Survival Stage.
Meanwhile, Nigma Galaxy bow out of the Dota 2 EWC in 5th-8th place and with US$70,000 in consolation. While they fall far short of the title, it is still a respectable result for the team when considering few expected them to even make the Playoffs. Nigma Galaxy will be looking to improve on their form in the Dota 2 EWC in preparation for the The International 2026 next month.
BetBoom and Nigma Galaxy's paths to the Playoffs
Both BetBoom and Nigma Galaxy enjoyed strong starts in the Dota 2 EWC Group Stage. BetBoom were seeded into Group A, where they finished as the second seed with a 8-2 record. Their two losses notably came in 1-1 draws against the group's top seed in Falcons and the tournament's surprise contender in Rune Eaters Esports.
As their group's second seed, BetBoom advanced to the second round of the Survival Stage, only needing to win one match to secure a spot in the Playoffs. They did just that by making short work of South American squad LGD Gaming.
Meanwhile, Nigma Galaxy were arguably the standout performers of the Group Stage. They finished as the top seed of Group B with an impressive 9-1 record, notably usurping group favourites Aurora Gaming by forcing them to a 1-1 draw and sweeping the rest of the group that included Team Liquid.
With a five-day gap between the final day of the Group Stage and their quarterfinals match in the Playoffs, there were concerns that Nigma Galaxy accumulated rust during their lengthy break while BetBoom were able to stay in shape with their lone Survival Stage match. Those concerns were proven true as Nigma Galaxy looked outclassed by BetBoom in their series.
BetBoom sweep Nigma Galaxy out of the Dota 2 Esports World Cup
Game one of the series saw BetBoom outdraft Nigma Galaxy, with the former sneaking in a fourth pick Naga Siren for Ilja “Kiritych” Ulyanov against an opposing lineup that lacked the necessary area-of-effect damage to deal with the hero. BetBoom also picked Lina for Danil “gpk” Skutin and Axe for Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin to act as the team's playmakers before their carry could come online.
Nigma Galaxy responded by last-picking an unorthodox carry Invoker pick for Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan, a move that suggested they were looking to end things quickly as Artem “Lorenof” Melnick had Viper while Cedric “Davai Lama” Deckmyn was on Lycan.
Nigma Galaxy's gambit failed miserably, as they did not get the strong start they needed in the laning stage. Instead, Kiritych enjoyed was able to farm virtually uncontested while gpk and MieRo wreaked havoc all across the map. BetBoom eventually claimed their opening win of the series after 35 minutes of action and with a 35-14 kill lead.
Gpk and MieRo racked up 10 kills apiece and combined for 22 assists against two deaths each. Meanwhile, Kiritych had five kills and 15 assists on just one death, notably finishing the game with almost 35,000 gold in net worth off of an incredibly efficient 1,100 GPM.
Nigma Galaxy then looked to bounce back in game two with a more orthodox draft featuring SumaiL on Tiny, Lorenof on Puck, and Davai Lama on Timbersaw. Meanwhile, BetBoom fielded a lineup with plenty of physical damage spearheaded by Kirytich's Kez and gpk's Slardar. MieRo on Centaur Warrunner provided another tanky frontliner while Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov on Undying and Vitalie “Save-” Melnic on Shadow Shaman brought powerful teamfight abilities.
Nigma Galaxy had a much better start in game two and looked to be in good position to take control after Davai Lama scored a Triple Kill in a fight over the Dire Wisdom Shrine. However, things started spiraling out of control for them once BetBoom's cores came online in the mid game and ran them over in the ensuing five-on-five clashes. Despite Nigma Galaxy's best efforts to mount a comeback, they could only draw things out to the 49-minute mark before they ultimately conceded the series sweep.
Kiritych led the way for BetBoom in the closeout game with 12 kills and 13 assists on two deaths, notably recording a Rampage in the final teamfight of the series. Gpk and MieRo both finished with six kills and 18 assists on three deaths while Kataomi had six kills and 19 assists on five deaths.
The Dota 2 Esports World Cup final four
With the conclusion of the quarterfinals, only four teams remain in contention for the Dota 2 EWC championship: BetBoom, Vici Gaming, PARIVISION, and Team Yandex. The penultimate day of the tournament on Saturday (19 July) will see these teams clash to determine the two grand finalists, with BetBoom taking on Vici Gaming and PARIVISION facing Team Yandex.
The final day of the tournament on Sunday (20 July) will then begin with the third place match between the losing teams of the semifinals before the competition concludes with the best-of-five grand finals.
What is the Dota 2 Esports World Cup?
The Dota 2 tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026 will be the last Tier 1 tournament of the 2025-2026 competitive Dota 2 season, before it culminates in The International 2026 in August. With many of the teams competing in the EWC also qualified for this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament, it should serve as a good preview for the battle for the Aegis of Champions next month.
The Dota 2 EWC features 24 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world and will take place from 7 to 19 July in the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. The teams will be fighting for EWC glory and the lion's share of US$750,000, out of the tournament's US$25 million prize pool.
The Dota 2 EWC is split into three stages; the Group Stage from 7 to 12 July, the Survival Stage from 14 to 15 July, and the Playoffs from 16 to 19 July.
The Group Stage will see the 24 teams split into four groups of six teams each to play in a single round-robin with best-of-two matches. The top team from each group will advance directly to the Playoffs, the second to fourth-placed teams will move to the Survival Stage, while the two bottom finishers will be among the first to be eliminated.
The Survival Stage will feature the 12 teams that finished third to fourth in their respective groups during the Group Stage, with four spots in the Playoffs up for grabs in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches. The Survival Stage will open with the third and fourth seeds from different groups taking each other on, with the winners moving on to face the second place teams for the four Playoff spots.
Finally, the Playoffs will be a single-elimination bracket featuring the four teams that finished as the top seeds of their groups in the Group Stage, as well as the four teams that made it out of the Survival Stage. All matches in the Playoffs will be a best-of-three except for the grand finals, which will be a full best-of-five series.
