ASUS has confirmed that its new handheld gaming PC will launch on June 13 for $699.
ASUS has confirmed a release date for its upcoming Steam Deck competitor, the ROG Ally: June 13, 2023. The handheld gaming PC will cost $699, which is a little pricier than the 512GB version of the Steam Deck, though it features updated hardware to justify that price point.
Asus first announced the ROG Ally on April Fool’s Day this year, which was a strange marketing move considering the handheld PC was real and very much not a prank. This is a beast of a gaming PC however, especially considering that you can take it on the go. The ROG Ally runs on Windows 11 Home and comes with up to an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor. The device also comes with AMD Radeon Graphics (AMD RDNA 3, 12 CUs, up to 2.7 GHz, up to 8.6 Teraflops), according to Asus.
For its display, the ROG Ally has a seven-inch 1080p 120Hz touch screen (16:9, 1920x1080). It also has up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB PCle 4.0 SSD of storage. If your gaming library is looking a little empty, the PC also comes with a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which plays host to hundreds of videogames. The higher-spec version of this device is quite a bit more expensive than the lowest-end version of the Steam Deck with just 64GB of storage, but $699 still gives you a lot of bang for your buck here.
This 512GB version of the ROG Ally launches on June 13, but another lower-end version of the device will launch later in the year for $599. Much like the Nintendo Switch, you can also pick up an ROG Gaming Charger Dock separately to connect the device to a TV. We’ll have to wait for reviews and early impressions to start pouring in to see how this device performs in the real world, but for now, here are its full technical specs:
