The release of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game on XBOX has been delayed to 3 September, from its initial release date of 23 July. While other platforms will launch according to plan, the XBOX version is on hold for over a month due to backend feature issues.

The PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) versions will all be fully launched hours from now, on 23 July. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also set to launch later in 2026.

Other than that, the announcement also revealed that the Nintendo Switch version will only be available as the Standard Edition. Meanwhile, cross-play beyond the English language won't be available, though the studio affirmed its commitment to bringing these features, along with an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, as soon as possible.

Why is Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game delayed on XBOX?

Developer Gameplay Group International announced the setback through its official social media channels just hours before its supposed release on the XBOX console. It specifically cited "unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature" as the reason for the delay.

The full statement is as follows:

“As we approach launch, we want to update our community on a few platform-specific details.

For Nintendo Switch players, the Nintendo Switch version will be available as the standard edition only. Additionally, cross-play with other platforms and language localization beyond English will not be available. We are committed to bringing these features, along with upgrading to Deluxe Edition, to players as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our timeline and progress.

For the Xbox community, we are forced to delay the release. Due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by September 3. Existing pre-orders will remain active and will not be canceled.”

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has had a turbulent release schedule, with an initial release window in 2025 before being delayed twice in 2026. Unfortunately, the sudden month-long delay for XBOX means fans on the platform will have to wait even longer.
