A familiar cast of mutants, mercenaries, and old rivals is waiting when Logan finally unsheathes his claws.

Marvel's Wolverine is finally beginning to reveal what players can expect when Logan's next adventure arrives this September. During its San Diego Comic-Con panel, Insomniac Games unveiled its biggest story reveal yet, introducing iconic X-Men allies, dangerous villains, and a closer look at the conflict at the heart of the game.

The showcase went beyond the trailer itself, with the studio also sharing new details about the story, a prequel comic, and the game's soundtrack. Together with last week's "Ain't No Hero" cinematic, the latest reveals paint a much clearer picture of the characters, factions, and rivalries awaiting Logan on PlayStation 5.

What was revealed in the new Marvel's Wolverine trailer?

If last week's "Ain't No Hero" trailer was all about Logan, the latest reveal widens the scope considerably. The new footage puts Jean Grey at the heart of the story while teasing a much larger battle for mutant survival, with several familiar faces from the X-Men universe making their appearance.

Long-time X-Men fans will recognise Logan and Jean Grey's complicated relationship, which has often been intertwined with Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. Jean Grey is far from the only familiar face returning.  The trailer also reunites Logan with long-time rival Sabretooth while featuring Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Bolivar Trask, and the mutant-hunting organisation The Hand, expanding the roster of allies and adversaries shown ahead of launch.

According to Insomniac, "new allies and formidable adversaries emerge in the clash for mutant survival" as Wolverine joins forces with Jean Grey to protect those most vulnerable. The studio added that players will fight alongside Team X against enemies including Bolivar Trask, Omega Red, and Lady Deathstrike, while standing against factions such as The Reavers and The Hand.

Marvel's Wolverine gets prequel comic and new story details

The surprises did not end with the trailer. During the panel, Insomniac confirmed that Logan's history with Team X will be central to the game's story, giving fans a better idea of how Sabretooth, Mystique, and Nathaniel Essex fit into the adventure.

The studio also confirmed Bolivar Trask as one of the game's primary antagonists, bringing the creator of the Sentinel programme into the spotlight. Combined with The Hand, Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red, and Sabretooth, Logan will be facing multiple factions throughout his journey, rather than a single overarching villain.

To bridge the gap between Logan's past and the beginning of the game, Insomniac also released a Marvel's Wolverine prequel comic during the panel. Available now, the comic explores Team X's earlier missions and provides additional context for the relationships and rivalries players will encounter when the game begins.

Composer Bear McCreary also shared new details about the soundtrack, explaining that different characters have their own musical identities. Sabretooth's themes lean into distorted rock, while Jean Grey's are built around harp and guitar. The full soundtrack will be released on 28 August, 2026, just over two weeks before the game's launch.
