It only took three weeks for Roblox creators to jump on one of Steam's biggest new hits.

Just three weeks after Meccha Chameleon exploded onto Steam, Roblox creators are already capitalising on its success, with several experiences inspired by the hit game now attracting more concurrent players than the original.

As first reported by Kotaku, community tracker RoWatcher found that a growing number of Roblox games based on Meccha Chameleon have collectively overtaken the Steam title's current player count. While the original continues to perform strongly on Steam, the trend shows how quickly viral PC games are making their way onto Roblox.

Meccha Chameleon Roblox clones overtake Steam player count

Released three weeks ago, Meccha Chameleon quickly became one of Steam's biggest breakout hits. Developed by a two-person team, the camouflage-based multiplayer game sold 15 million copies within its first month and reached an all-time peak of more than 340,000 concurrent players.

According to SteamDB, Meccha Chameleon has averaged between 60,000 and 80,000 concurrent players over the past week.

RoWatcher found that Roblox experiences inspired by the game have now surpassed that figure collectively. At the time of writing, [BACKROOMS] Chameleon! had close to 50,000 concurrent players, while Paint Or Seek had more than 37,000. Other experiences, including Paint and Seek!, Paint to Hide, and Paint or Die, were also drawing thousands of players each, pushing the combined audience beyond Meccha Chameleon's current Steam player count.

While the Roblox experiences closely resemble Meccha Chameleon, they're free to play and available on one of the world's biggest gaming platforms, making them far more accessible than the US$6 Steam title.

Which Steam games have Roblox clones?

Meccha Chameleon isn't the only recent Steam hit to inspire Roblox experiences. RoWatcher also highlighted Roblox games based on other viral PC releases, including R.E.P.O., PEAK, Lethal Company, and Among Us. Another recent example is Clean the Library, inspired by Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library. While the Steam original currently attracts around 5,000 to 7,000 concurrent players, Clean the Library has reached a peak of 83,591 concurrent players and amassed more than 70 million visits on Roblox.

With Meccha Chameleon only three weeks old, it's already become one of the latest examples of a growing trend where successful Steam games quickly receive Roblox counterparts. As more viral indie releases break through on PC, they're increasingly finding a second life on Roblox through community-made experiences.
