Here’s what you need to know: everyone who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to start playing the beta in its first week, running from 21–25 August. An open beta will begin later on 28 August, running until 1 September, at which point the beta will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2.
It’s worth noting that the beta is set to launch right after an upcoming Call of Duty Next stream on 21 August, which will dive into gameplay and announcements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer. The event will also likely shed more detail on what players can expect in the beta.
While the specifics of the upcoming beta’s content have not been announced, Activision has outlined what players can expect to get their hands on soon:
“Get ready to drop into multiple Multiplayer maps and modes, choosing from a wide selection of brand-new Operators, including all the Vault Edition Operators for players who pre-order the Vault Edition, and unlocking as many as 19 different weapons before deploying into everything from small-scale 3v3 skirmishes to massive tactical battles featuring tanks and more. Test your mettle across new and returning modes, from Search & Destroy to the brand-new Kill Block, plus the Training Mobility Course.
“Experience fluid movement and best-in-class ballistics, building your own loadouts with the optional help of Gunny, leveling up as you unlock a wide variety of weapons, Tacticals, Lethals, Field Upgrades, Perks, and Killstreaks.”
Activision also confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 users will soon be able to begin pre-ordering the game on 26 August, 2026. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will launch on 23 October, 2026.
