StarCraft Legacy has been with us longer than I can remember and yet lately its inactivity had become a thorn in many die hard Starcraft fans. If the official Starcraft Fan Sites Database dwindles into net oblivion due to inattention, and lack of community involvement, what an ominous sign of our future at large does this forbode? Fortunately, much as the Battle.net has recently turned a new face, so will hopefully SC:Legacy follow suit. We interviewed their staff in the hopes of finding encouraging news and we were pleasantly surprised. New plans and new blood comming up in force. The interview used the Q&A format to keep it consice but we had a long chat about their future plans and aspirations.

SC:Legacy has always been there for StarCraft fans, both in the good times and the bad times, will you promise us you will not leave us?

SC:Legacy Staff We here at SC:L would like to apologize to our loyal members and the casual StarCraft gamer alike, but for the past several months we have slowly begun to improve upon our noble, yet dying site. New life has been breathed into the site and SC:L is about to make its comeback and reconnect with the ever growing StarCraft community.

SC:Legacy has slowly been losing viewership ever since WCG USA '05, I would venture you guys have reached an all time low, 300 uniques per day is a harsh reality if you consider the famous red link at Blizzard pointing to SC:Legacy, What do you attribute this too?

SC:Legacy Staff StarCraft Legacy's success can be directly attributed towards its loyalty to its fans. SC:L has always been known as a website that catered its work and design to giving the fans what they wanted to give us. All of the major SC sites that have been in existence will go through stages where their viewership is lower based on events that happen around the StarCraft Community. Despite the impression that the website has been in hiatus, for the past several months discussions between staff members old and new have been in the works. The appearance that SC:L has been in this state of hibernation is due to the numerous problems that our message board, BlizzForums, has been having from a technical standpoint, which our staff is still consistently working on getting back up. Overall, however SC:L is ready to return to its glory days with a fresh group of individuals who are ready to continue the great tradition that individuals like Redcloak, XG3 and Cronoss have helped to establish here at StarCraft Legacy.

Glad to see fresh new blood pumping inside SC:Legacy. Ok one more hard one, will you guys fix up the fan site base database? It really, really needs work. Any day soon a smart fans site builds a better one and will ask Blizzard to host it themselves.

SC:Legacy Staff Yes, we will be doing a complete overhaul of the fan site database. It is one of our prime concerns - to fix up anything that we are heavily relied upon- including the database. We will not let our fans down, Blizzard down, or ourselves by not fixing this very important part of our site. We also ask the community to keep us informed of the great new fan sites that are upcoming.

What mayor changes can we expect to see?

SC:Legacy Staff Each day we have new opportunities being worked on. These fresh ideas will be added into our already planned updates. In terms of some specifics:

Updating our Map Section - including our "Map of the Month" series and sponsored pro maps
Replay Section - we're bringing back the "Hot Replay" and replay of the week/month
News- News, news, news! We'll actively be going to the ends of the SC community to bring you the latest updates.
Broken links? Sadly, they exist. Not for much longer...
Strategy Section :: A series of updates coming to the successful organizer of BGN.
Layout changes - We will be doing a series of tweaks to the site interface.

Those are just the bare basics, stay tuned for more updates!

If you guys pull half of what your promising I really have no difficulty in seeing SC:Legacy reach part of its former glory. It will never be like the Golden years of Starcraft, for anyone, but you surely could bring it back into a thriving site. How close is Pimpest Plays to being ready? When can we expect it?

SC:Legacy Staff MnM is currently working on Pimpest Plays; however she is extremely busy and the amount of time it takes to go through each submitted replay and to truly find something original and “pimp” is difficult. We hope to have PP ready as soon as possible. Rest assured it is coming, and coming soon. We promise that the wait will be well worth it.

I hear you guys have had two new additions? Who are they and if you could tell us a little bit about them.

LordofAscension

Rise

SC:Legacy Staff One thing that has reinvigorated StarCraft Legacy is the influx of new staff members into the fold. The new generation of SC:L is being spearheaded by two unique personalities, Rise and LordofAscension. LordofAscension, currently a sophomore at Grand Valley State University has joined the staff has one of the two main administrators at SC:L. He has worked at numerous smaller sites in the StarCraft Community for many years, and was also a successful clan leader for 5 years and has been gaming for the last 12 years. He brings to StarCraft Legacy an administrative background and experience for being in charge.

Rise was hired aboard as a member of the StarCraft Legacy staff, and his energy and constant willingness for new ideas have really helped rejuvenate the staff. Rise, from Sydenham, Ontario has a keen sense of ability to be able to relate to anyone and truthfully has a mind for the game of StarCraft. However, it's his unrelenting work ethic that should have the entire SC Community excited about what is to come. His gaming background experience centers around SC, D2, DotA, WoW, and GW. He was working with SpaceDominator in the time leading up to the SC:L drive.

Sadly, SpaceDominator will be moving on with his life. He has had a legendary six years at SC:L, and we will be cheering for him as he moves on to other things. He will still be around SC:L - specfically his Strategy Section - but will be doing it at his own pace. Of course this pace will be greatful, like so many other things he has done here. Embrace the Teacher who extended his passion to StarCraft. We like to think he has brought SC into his vibrant teaching career. That's right, if you talk in Mr. SpaceDominator's class he will do a pro Reaver Pop on you! This is not the end of him. In a few months time we will be interviewing him about his past Legacy as well as any new adventures. It is merely a new chapter in his best-selling novel. Our best wishes to him and an extended thank-you from rise, who has been mentored by SD some time.

How many active staff members are there currently manning the site? Do you guys need more help?

SC:Legacy Staff Officially we have six active staff members. We have the LordofAscension, Rise, SpaceDominator, and (the return of) Cronoss, whose job will be the day to day work and maintenance of SC:L. However both MnM and Redcloak are still part of the active staff and will be assisting from the background. MnM will also continue her amazing tournament coverage and RC will continue to work on and with Blizzforums. We absolutely need more help. We are looking for highly motivated and energetic people to do some of the following: admin our fan art and fiction, a map admin, and of course some old fashioned news hounds. Another staff member we are looking for is an excellent coder to do some maintenance. However all help would be greatly appreciated. Those interested should apply by emailing us via our site.

Will XG3 Ever come down from Valhalla now that he is a Battle.net Gott? i.e. Ever since he started working at Blizzard he has disappeared from SC:Legacy!

SC:Legacy Staff As you can see by the beautifully redesigned Battle.Net site, XG3 is a busy man over at Blizzard. Through our limited contact with him, we've been able to send the classic SC:L vibe - one of support, creativity, and focus. We haven't really heard from him much, he has moved on in life and we are cheering for him!

Yes it has not escaped us his particular style permeating Battle.net’s site. He has done a great job, most fans love the changes. How about any specific features at SC:Legacy too?

SC:Legacy Staff This is where our dreaming comes in...
Ever heard of Project: Revolution?
Entropy I collect all their gifs, stubborn group of guys. They have been working relentlessly for several years now trying to make a complete Starcraft MOD out of the W3 engine!
SC:Legacy Staff Well we are planning frequent and original specials on this great project. We're hoping to ramp things up within weeks on this series of features. Many of our events, features, and specials at SC:L will be focused around connectivity. Ideas are in the preliminary stages with a series of large fan sites which will lead to some exciting results.

Will you ever update your fan fictions section?

SC:Legacy Staff This will be a large feature of the revamped site. We will continue our quality over quantity pursuit to bring the best of the creative minds of SC - to your computer! We plan to have a Staff position dedicated to this section (maybe two..). Perhaps he or she will be an author from the section's past... Currently the staff receives between 5-8 questions a week regarding fan submissions, this news is both heartening and exciting as we will soon be accepting them once again. Bringing the vibrant community to your doorstep will be our leading goal.

Can we expect a kick ass USA WCG 06 coverage again?

SC:Legacy Staff Absolutely! SC:L will continue to bring the best of the WCG coverage directly to the screens of millions of SC gamers with the same level of excellence the community has come to expect. Many thanks to MnM for her amazing work and coordination. We have plans to have extensive coverage - including multiple staff on the floor! Specifically, we'll have large US coverage due to the fact most of us live there. Saying this, where ever the World finals may be we will try to get someone there in person. Let alone having tons of coverage from afar.

The American and Canadian StarCraft community has always been you core following in the latter years, any shout outs for them?

SC:Legacy Staff SC:L wouldn't have been able to survive without the support of all our fans. A deep thank-you to all of you who help to support us. In terms of specific shoutouts:

GG.net & you - For helping SC:L ease back into the community!
MedievalDrgon – For helping us keep up with the active news submissions, as well as an invite to the Q&A with Aaron Rosenberg.
sMi.Newb - Active news submissions.
Space Pirates - They help you buy insurance.
Mnm - For great tournament coverage!
XG3 - Beautiful designs as well as coverage. Happy days in Valhalla.
RedCloak - Good luck with the bandwidth issues, sir!
Enforcerman - Thank you for playing host and creator to this legendary site.

And many, many more! A special thanks to our North American fans, you made us the #1 North American site. At the same rate, a huge thanks to the rest of the world - you've made SC:L a true international community.

And thus ended the interview. We at GosuGamers wish them the best and maybe we will get some decent competition in the Starcraft news world. We welcome it. Bring it on Legacy! Mind you should they fall again, we will be here to help them out in hard times. You never know maybe one day they bale us out, internet is fickle thing.
