[s]event_wcg[/s]When the World Cyber Games is just around the corner, Cable News Network (CNN) posted a short article about this huge event. It is not much, more like a short notice about this year's festival.
"For the world's best video game players, getting the high score is no longer enough." So says the first words about the most important computer tournament this year on the website of CNN. The article is not so deep, yet it scratches on the surface on how big this actually is. They mention all the money that is involved in the gaming industry, and that there are over 700 participants in the eight different games.
StarCraft not mentioned
"My parents didn't like it at all at first," says Michael "ahl" Korduner, member of the Swedish Counter Strike team Schroet Kommando. "But when I started traveling and making money out of it, they realized that I'm actually not just wasting my time on this." Since USA is considered an FPS country, neither StarCraft nor WarCraft III is mentioned in the article.
Maybe next year they will write an even bigger article, perhaps a coverage of these kinds of tournaments with all the eight different games. But this year we will have to settle for a short article about some of them.
