WGTour has been the largest and one of the oldest Starcraft community in Starcraft's history. Thousands have participated in its ladder and forums. Their multi-language features and their constant work have managed to forge a huge fan base across the globe. They were the first to breach the Korean barrier. They have had their ups and downs and very soon they are preparing a new phase for the benefit of us all.
WGTour has tried to bring the best ladder, the Starcraft community has had, since the demise of the Battle.net ladder system, and for a few years it succeeded. They may have not fully satisfied everyone but they always remained true to Battle.net. Whatever criticisms you may or may not have about WGTour, it should be remembered that they are, and have always been, a community effort by hundreds of starcraft fans and gamers over the past years, nothing more and nothing less. The war they have had to fight against abusers has been insane, a war that even Blizzard lost. If it was not perfect we only have ourselves to blame.
Some of you might have wondered what is happening to WGTour. Recently with the rise of the new brilliant Ladder PGTour, no one can deny a down slope in WGTour's ladder activity. Nevertheless they have not been idle and the famous claim made between Ilintar, WTGour's webmaster and Pat, PGTour's creator, that "Competition, can only bring us good" may just ring true. WGTour is taking their time to prepare a new attractive offer that will give gamers another ladder on which they can compete with the relative comfort of minimal operating hassle. Much of that will be achieved by the new WGTour launcher, whose main features will include:
Automatic WGTour game detection by map/game-name
Ally & Observer detection, now you will be able to play 2v2 games / WGT games with an observer without it impairing the automatic report feature
Automatic Result Reports
Automated Replay Saving and Sending it to the Server
No need to remember to save replays anymore!
A Centralized Anti-Hack System
The launcher has been developed in cooperation with SuperPenguin, who will include his most excellent PenguinPlug code, including but not limited to the anti-hack code, and the replay auto-save feature which he ported from Lasgo's original code. WGTour is trying to bring gamers the best possible Battle.net ladder they can, so that you can focus on playing and not reporting bugs in the system or manually reporting games. Because of this, they will announce a beta season for the launcher shortly. And the best part? We all gain and now you can also compete still within Battle.net.
