MBCgame Survivor League continued today with Group F. ChoJJa is no doubt the most well known of the guys in this group. The others were Dream.t)Jangbi, DArKeLf[S.siR] and Luxury[GsP]. Luxury is YellOw[ArnC]'s brother. Darkelf is perhaps known from his stay in iG. and Jangbi? Well, he's Jangbi.
The MBCgame Survivor League is the qualifier for the MSL. If you still don't know how it works, go to my other news about the Survivor League for a closer explanation of the format. Skipping the small talk, here are the battle reports from today:
ChoJJa vs Jangbi at Longinus II
Jangbi warped in at 3 and opened with a quick nexus followed by a gate and a forge. ChoJJa spawned at 11 and has some trouble putting down his 12hatch in the right location due to a probe. He put it down in the choke, but when the probe left, he cancelled and put it in the right place. He also put down a third hatchery near in his second. His choice of tech was lurkers. Jangbi chose to go for +1 speedlots. He timed his attack nicely and although ChoJJa had three sunkens and lots of lings, it wasn't enough. Perfectly timed and ChoJJa had to give up after he lost his den, pool and lair. GG
Luxury vs DArKeLf at Longinus II
Luxury spawned at 7 and opened with a 12hatch. Darkelf landed at 3 and went with a normal two barrack opening. Zerg put a third hatchery down in his main while terran expanded. Zerg also added a forth hatchery and two evolution chambers while teching to lurkers. Darkelf was busy scanning after the overlord at his cliff and he almost got it with his marines. Zerg takes 9 and starts morphing in his hive before he decides to attack.
Luxury storms the front with lurker ling, but Darkelf simply pulls back his M&M and lets his tanks deal with the lurkers. Meanwhile zerg has put down a mound and terran decides it's a good idea to move out. Luxury thinks this is a good opportunity to attack, but his army does very limited damage to the terran and darkelf is able to destroy 9. It seemed like zerg had been hoping to keep terran in his base until he could get his defilers up. He attacks with his first defiler, but since he lost a lot of troops on the two previous attacks he doesn't have the troops to take it all the way in.
Terran cleans up and takes his mineral only while zerg has now finished his ultralisk cavern and takes the natural at 11. Darkelf moves out and sieges up right outside the zerg natural. He's not in range on the sunkens, but he's in range of all the tech buildings in the main. Luxury loses his cavern, mound, spire and nest before he tries a flank to kill off the terran force with a huge amount of lings. He manages, but not easily. Terran responds with taking out 9, which zerg has retaken, and the new mound there and then eliminating the exp at 11. At this point the game has been over for a while, but Luxury fights a bit in the middle before he typed out. This game made the TvZ record on Longinus II 8-1. GG
Jangbi vs DArKeLf at Desert Fox
Jangbi warped in at 3, while Darkelf landed at 11. Both players went typical island builds, with speed shuttles and goliaths. Jangbi started the show with a two zealot, one goon drop into the terran main. Darkelf should have taken out the shuttle, but had his two goliaths shooting at the neutral building and not the best reaction time. Protoss continued towards reaver, but when the shuttle came back to the terran main the previous drop was taken care of and Darkelf had 4 goliaths and a wraith. The wraithed stalked the shuttle despite it's single dragoon escort. As Jangbi dropped his reaver back in his main the wraith got off the last shot on it. Protoss added another robotics facility and terran went for mostly goliaths in dropships.
“Darkelf had a cleverly placed marine though and saw it coming a mile away.Darkelf tried a drop in the protoss base, but had to reatreat. On his way back the dropship was picked off in the middle by the goon that was left there earlier when the wraith was chasing the shuttle. Both players have their natural at this point and Jangbi decides to ferry his troops over the mineral barrier at terran's mineral only. Darkelf had a cleverly placed marine though and saw it coming a mile away. Protoss drops a goon and a reaver into the terran main and it seems like terran is not paying proper attention. His goliaths focuses on the dropped goon and allows the reaver to make it to the mineral line to do some nice damage on the scvs. Darkelf responds with sieging up behind the mineral only expansion of Jangbi. It's taken out after some fighting, but Jangbi quickly finishes up the rest of the terran forces there and retakes the expo. Terran takes the island a 9 while P takes the island at 4 as well as the 7 main and adds three starports in his main.
The game developes into a fight over the terran island at 9. Jangbi keeps producing speed shuttles and forcing it to lift, while Darkelf is desperate to start mining it properly. Jangbi is very agressive though and manages to keep it lifted for most of the time. He also prevents terran from attacking and Darkelf has to use all his forces to defend. When Jangbi is confortable with his economic lead he drops the terran mineral only instead with support of his carriers. Darkelf was behind from start to finish. GG
Jangbi, clearly happy with his victories today
ChoJJa vs Luxury at Desert Fox
Luxury spawned at 7 and went with a 9pool. ChoJJa spawned at 3 and went with a later pool, and only after gas. This resulted in ChoJJa having to put down his second hatchery in his main before he could break down the neutral buildings and put the third in his natural. Luxury's quick pool allowed him to put in second hatchery directly in his natural. ChoJJa went with scourges first, while Luxury morphed in some mutalisks. There was a bit of back and forth, but Luxury displayed some nice mutamicro and minimized the damage from the scourge.
Luxury attacked ChoJJa's main mineral line with mutalisks and force the drones to run. There we're too many casualties though. However when it happened again, ChoJJa had lots quick a bit of mining time. Luxury recognized his advantage and started trading scourges one for one with ChoJJa. Slowly, but surely Luxury gained the advantage and simply harassed ChoJJa to death before he could put up spores in his main. GG
DArKeLf vs Luxury at Blitz X
Darkelf landed on the left side of the map and opened with a two barrack build, although he built them apart, so zerg didn't see the second one. Luxury spawned on the right side and opened with a 12hatch. He was taken by surprise when terran moved out with six marines and 2 medics. Out of his four sunkens, only one finished in time. Darkelf could have taken it out, but he rather focus fired on the drones. When his 2 reinforcement firebats arrived he tried to run up the ramp but was stopped by drones and the few remaining lings.
In the meantime Darkelf has started his expansion well knowing that he was ahead. Luxury tried to compensate by expanding to the south east corner and shortly after to his side of the middle, while teching to mutalisks. He had a surprisingly big muta force rather quickly, but he was a bit too scared of losing it and didn't do much effective harass. When Darkelf decided to move out, zerg was about to move in on his natural, but a single bunker and a handfull of marines scared him. Terran takes out the middle expansions of zerg and then sieges up on the ledge overlooking the zerg natural. Luxury has a massive force and should have been able to deal with it, but he managed his troops poorly and when some reinforcements arrived from Darkelf it was clear that zerg had no chance after that. Darkelf quickly attacked the zerg natural and forced Luxury to admit defeat. GG

Not the best games I've ever seen today, but DArKeLf vs Jangbi was not bad. Coming up later this week: MSL, OSL and on the 7th it's CJ vs HERO. Something to look foreward to.
