We have dug into the news archives and found a statement where Blizzard officially denied previous MMO rumors circulating less than a year ago. Rumors yesterday stated that their next game, supposedly a StarCraft sequel, would be in MMO-style. MMOs can not be made this fast.

Yesterday GosuGamers posted about » claims that the new game would be in MMO style. CVG, among others, said to have inside sources to back up the argument.

They had indeed, but those sources seem to have misinterpreted something Vivendi, owners of Blizzard Entertainment, had said in a presentation several months ago. Less than a year ago Blizzard denied the rumors, saying no MMO was in the pipe lines:

"No, that rumor is not true in regard to Blizzard," Blizzard told GameSpot. "We believe that the rumor circulating about this subject is based on a misinterpretation of information provided to industry analysts. We do not currently have any MMO development plans beyond the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, and furthermore, we don't have any intentions to focus on only one genre or platform with our future games."

It is interesting to note that Blizzard did not deny claims that » the next game will be StarCraft 2.

This statement was released in 2006, but if they did not have any MMO in production then less than a year ago, there is no chance a complete demonstation would be ready by the 19th May.

The full story about the MMO-claims can be followed by clicking the links below. GosuGamers will continue to closely cover the topic of Bilzzard's next game, which will be announced at May 19th, just more than two weeks away, and will sort as best as we can in the rumor-jungle also known as the internet. Stay tuned!
