The 26th season of BWCL has come to a close and a new champion has been crowned! Dethroning the former champions, Excello is the German-based, DkH! In a season that was rife with controversy the final playday proved critical for both teams, as the champion was yet to be determined.
As many already know, the player sO.o, aka Hungtran was caught and banned for maphacking. As he was part of Excello's team, the BWCL admin staff decided to hand down a penalty to team Excello for using and harboring a hacker, and gave them -3 points. The controversy surrounding this case is that Hungtran only had been a part of the team for 2 weeks, and only played in ONE BWCL match; however the BWCL admin staff said in effect that Excello had "got off easy" so to speak, and they had given much harsher punishments in the past.
The final playday of BWCL arrived, and a champion was still not determined. DkH faced off against the Polish surprise, ZZZ... while Excello faced off against the North American based [LighT]. With the penalty, Excello was behind DkH by a small margin and needed a 5-1 or better victory against [LighT], and for DkH to lose to ZZZ.
It was a bad day for Excello, as [LighT] took them to a close match, losing 2-4, and DkH tied with ZZZ 3-3. The final verdict: DkH ends the season with 52 points, while Excello ends with 50. After an intense 11 week season of interesting battles and much intrigue, a new champion was named!

As stated before; DkH took the throne with 52 points, followed closely by Excello with 50 points. Finishing 3rd were the underdogs of the season, [LighT] with 40 points. After a bad start, and being predicted by many to finish below the top 5, [LighT] ended the season strong to beat out the Czech based CDS) by 1 point. Another Czech team, ]DK[ finished 5th followed closely by the Polish team, ZZZ. While the final two teams to stay in the division are both German; DiE and Fruchtzwerge.
Unfortunately every season, Division 1 says farewell to four teams and this season they were: FA, iG, tA-r, and yB.
With just around 3 more weeks until the start of the next BWCL Season, we can look forward to seeing another close race between Excello and DkH, and maybe some more teams might sneak in for a surprise! Will DkH manage to hold onto their throne? Only time will tell!
