The German site Readmore reported yesterday that Team ASUS was not supported by the hardware company ASUS in any way. Not in Asia, Europe, and not even Russia where the managers are put. The press and marketing office of ASUS was not aware of any associations with the team. The ASUS Open Cup organizer Dimon, also an official ASUS representative says that Team ASUS is a fake, and that no one in ASUS Russia knows of this team.
A couple of hours later, WCReplays announced an official statement from the 'Team ASUS' managers SuS and Mart1in. Apparently they were not going to be sponsored by ASUS until they qualified for the WC3L.
- If people had just been a bit patient, everything would have been sorted out, they explain in the statement. Reason for this happening was because of 'bureaucratical reasons'.
SuS and Mart1in further says that they will change the name, and that they are through with rumours.
- The players we had recently gathered WILL continue to play for us, they assure in the WCReplays newspost. However, just before they changed their name at the ESL site to Team ASTRAL, the Korean Orc player Farseer leaves.
Is there more to tell the tale? Did ASUS perhaps still have something to do with it but due to the debacle denying it all? It will be interesting to witness the future of Team ASTRAL, without their biggest star FarSeer.
The Team ASTRAL account has been deleted. It is also confirmed that the Korean player ReiGn left the team. This seems to be the end of what started out as a good candidate for a spot in the next WC3L season.
