Here’s a funny fact: All I have to do is start singing this tune, and my wife starts feeling the urge to play some Final Fantasy XI. It’s kind of understandable, though; the PlayOnline client is cumbersome enough to have a full loading and logging-in screen that stretches on for half of forever, and it’s catchy music. Part of that is because PlayOnline was supposed to have a life beyond just “FFXI Launcher,” but it’s still memorable.

We don’t think a whole lot about the launchers for the games we play on a regular basis, of course. They’re just there. We only start noticing them when we switch to other games or find the launcher suddenly changed; I’ve never really gotten over the shift from having a dedicated World of Warcraft launcher to using the BattleNet launcher, even though I do launch other things from it. Similarly, I’ve never liked Final Fantasy XIV‘s launcher, and The Elder Scrolls Online’s launcher always strikes me as cumbersome, but I quite liked logging into City of Heroes right up to its last days. So what about you? Which MMO has the best login experience?
