To avoid taking chip damage and survive dense enemy encounters in Absolum, input a dash immediately after an attack connects to cancel your character's recovery frames. Pair this technique with Y-axis vertical repositioning and environmental objects to break enemy attacks before your stamina pool empties.

Dash-Canceling and Stamina Management

Committing to full attack combos leaves your character stationary and exposed to counter-strikes. Executing a dash right as your strike hits truncates recovery frames. This reset lets you reposition instantly to dodge incoming hits or resume attacking.

  • Adopt an "Attack-Dash-Attack" cadence instead of completing long, static button combos when surrounded.
  • Reserve enough stamina for at least one emergency dodge at all times.
  • Disengage to the far side of the screen if your stamina drops or your character loses balance after heavy interactions.

Dashing consumes stamina. Depleting your meter leaves you unable to dodge, significantly increasing the risk of taking lethal damage in higher-difficulty rooms.

Using Environmental Throwables and Vertical Spacing

Absolum's belt-scrolling perspective provides a vertical Y-axis plane that helps you avoid horizontal attacks. Moving up or down relative to an enemy forces them to attack empty space, creating openings for safe counter-attacks.

  1. Scan the room: Identify interactive objects like barrels, boxes, or room debris as soon as you enter a stage.
  2. Initiate with objects: Pick up and throw environmental items into incoming packs to deal area-of-effect damage and inflict hit-stun.
  3. Isolate targets: Lure enemy groups toward the screen edges to thin their numbers and prevent attacks from off-screen angles.
  4. Punish whiffs: Wait on a parallel vertical line, let the enemy initiate a telegraphed attack, then shift planes with a dash-cancel to strike while they recover.
