To maintain maximum damage output and avoid taking lethal damage in Absolum, integrate dash cancels into your basic attack combo, funnel groups of enemies along room boundaries, and hold your stamina reserves for defensive evades during boss attack phases.

Executing Dash Cancels

Dash canceling allows you to truncate the recovery animation of an attack state, allowing you to chain another strike or move immediately.

  1. Initiate an attack: Start a basic attack string or special ability action.
  2. Confirm the hit registration: Watch for the weapon swing animation, projectile spawn, or hitbox emergence on target.
  3. Input the dash command: Trigger your dash immediately after the damage frame registers.

Timing is critical when performing this mechanic:

  • Inputting the dash too early: Cancels the hit frame entirely, dealing zero damage.
  • Inputting the dash too late: Locks your character in the recovery animation, leaving you open to incoming enemy hits.

Use dash cancels as your primary filler combat sequence while waiting for your major ability cooldowns to reset.

Funneling Mob Waves and Ability Cooldowns

Managing crowded rooms requires staggering your crowd-control (CC) abilities and controlling room positioning to avoid being surrounded.

  • Save CC for high-threat enemies: Do not spend your full ability rotation on initial trash mobs. Reserve displacement and stun skills for high-priority targets that disrupt movement or deal ranged damage.
  • Funnel enemies into lines: Use room borders and corners to force enemy groups into a linear path. This maximizes the hits landable by targeted area-of-effect (AoE) abilities.
  • Maintain a center room exit: Never get pinned against a wall without a clear path toward the center of the arena. Keep an escape route open to reposition if density becomes unmanageable.

Managing Stamina in Boss Fights

Stamina governs both offensive dash cancels and defensive evasions. Running out of stamina leaves your character unable to dodge heavy boss strikes.

  • Walk during long-range phases: Use standard movement rather than dashing to make minor positional adjustments when a boss is across the arena.
  • Limit burst sequences to safe windows: Only execute full, dash-canceled attack combinations when a boss enters a clear recovery state lasting at least two seconds.
  • Cancel aggressive combos early: Stop your attack chain immediately when a boss begins a telegraphed attack animation so you retain sufficient stamina to dodge out of harm's way.
