To avoid damage while maintaining offensive pressure in Absolum, execute a dash immediately after landing a strike to cancel the attack's recovery animation and trigger early invincibility frames (i-frames). Dashing directly through enemy attack hitboxes cancels incoming damage and keeps your hero in melee range to continue attack combos.

Executing Dash-Cancels and I-Frames

Standard attack animations end with recovery frames that leave your character static and vulnerable to counterattacks. Triggering a dash during these recovery frames immediately interrupts the animation, allowing you to re-engage or move without waiting for the strike sequence to finish.

Invincibility frames active during the start of the dash animation negate incoming damage. Use the following steps to integrate dash-canceling into active fights:

  1. Watch for attack telegraphs: Identify the enemy's wind-up animation before a strike lands.
  2. Execute your strike: Land your standard attack or combo opener.
  3. Dash at impact: Input your dash command the moment the enemy attack hitbox overlaps your character to pass safely through the strike.
  4. Resume your rotation: Immediately initiate your next attack chain from your new position behind or beside the target.

Stamina Management and Priorities

Dash-canceling consumes stamina, making resource management critical during extended mob waves or boss fights. Completely depleting your stamina bar leaves you unable to dodge incoming heavy attacks.

Keep a small stamina buffer available at all times, and adjust your tactics based on your current resource level:

  • Low stamina: Cease attacking immediately and focus entirely on spatial positioning until your bar recharges.
  • Depleted stamina: Use thrown objects or environmental traps to stagger enemies from a safe distance while recovering resources.
  • High-stamina combos: Save extended combo chains for moments when an enemy is confirmed staggered or locked in a recovery animation.

Room Positioning and Aerial Movement

Staying in open space prevents you from being pinned against wall boundaries where dodge directions are limited.

Floor Positioning and Crowd Control

Keep your hero toward the center of the arena rather than the edges. Use short dash-cancels to weave around the perimeter of enemy clusters. Dashing along the outside of a group forces enemies to rotate slowly toward you, clumping them together for cleave attacks while keeping you out of direct lines of fire.

Aerial Dash-Canceling

Jumping before executing a strike or dash alters your vertical hit location. Ground-based enemies and bosses with wide horizontal sweeps cannot hit airborne targets. Use a jump into an aerial strike, then dash-cancel out of the landing animation to close gaps quickly or escape after a plunging attack.
