In Absolum, you maintain continuous combat flow by inputting a dash command the moment an attack connects. Dashing instantly truncates the attack's recovery animation, freeing your character to move or launch a follow-up strike before enemies can hit back. To prevent getting overwhelmed in tight rooms, combine these dash-cancels with strict stamina management and edge-of-arena positioning.

How to Execute Animation Cancels

Standard attack strings lock your character into recovery frames after striking. Dashing immediately upon impact bypasses this delay, turning static attack sequences into mobile strikes.

  • Cancel timing: Press dash right as your attack connects with a target to interrupt the recovery animation.
  • Stamina awareness: Dashing uses stamina. Avoid spending your entire stamina bar on offensive cancels, as exhausting your gauge prevents dodging projectile attacks.
  • Pacing recovery: Intersect aggressive dash-cancels with brief intervals of walking. This allows your stamina gauge to regenerate while keeping your character mobile.

Room Clearing and Target Prioritization

High-density rooms easily lead to hit-stuns if you charge directly into the center. Work around the geometry of the area to handle large enemy waves safely.

  1. Eliminate ranged targets first: Ranged projectiles interrupt attack combos and disrupt dash timing. Seek out archers and casters before fighting melee enemies.
  2. Kite along boundaries: Hug the outer edges of the room to keep all active enemies on one side of your character, preventing them from surrounding you.
  3. Funnel melee waves: Bait trailing melee units into narrow paths or tight groupings, then strike multiple targets at once with area-of-effect skills or dash-through attacks.
  4. Break sight lines: Position pillars, walls, or environmental structures between your character and distant attackers to block incoming fire while fighting close-range targets.
  5. Reset bad positioning: If surrounded, execute an ultimate or heavy knockback ability to push enemies back and restore spatial control.

Adjusting Combat Flow for Boss Fights

Bosses feature multi-hit attacks and heavy counter-strike damage that punish long, static combos. Adjust your rhythm from extended aggressive chains to rapid hit-and-run rotations.

Combat SituationRecommended ActionResource Priority
Standard Room WaveDash-cancel into groups; funnel melee units along wallsPreserve enough stamina for single dodges
Boss Attack TelegraphLand 2–3 hits, then dash outward immediatelyRetain at least one dash charge to escape counters
Boss Stun / RecoveryUnload heavy combos or stamina-intensive skillsExhaust high-cost skill cooldowns before retreat

Never attempt to trade damage directly with bosses. Use your dash to close the distance during openings, execute a short sequence of strikes, and cancel out to safety before the boss initiates a counter-attack.
