To beat the high-difficulty Counterattack Trial in Absolum, replace defensive play with an aggressive, high-mobility strategy based on short attack bursts, immediate dash-canceling, and controlled stamina reserves. Success depends on canceling attack recovery animations early so you can reposition before dense enemy packs strike back.

Dash-Canceling Execution

Standard movement and sustained attack chains leave you vulnerable to instant punishment. You must cancel heavy recovery animations into evasive dashes to stay safe while keeping up offensive pressure.

  1. Initiate an attack chain and land your initial hit frames.
  2. Tap your dash input immediately during the recovery animation to cancel the rest of the movement.
  3. Reposition into the target's flank or blind spot before launching your next short strike.

Dash-canceling lets you deal continuous chip damage without locking yourself into long animations. However, every cancel consumes stamina. Never drain your stamina meter completely; you need a buffer to execute emergency evasions if an attack misses or an off-screen enemy strikes.

Target Prioritization and Arena Positioning

Fighting inside the center of the arena will quickly result in being surrounded by melee attacks and projectiles. Control the combat area by picking off threats systematically:

  • Target high-damage units first: Eliminate thinner, fast-striking enemies right away. Clearing them removes unpredictable damage and makes remaining heavy attack wind-ups easier to spot.
  • Isolate enemies: Use movement skills to bait one or two targets away from the main group. Deal damage to these isolated foes along the perimeter of the room.
  • Escape central clusters: If trapped in the middle of a crowd, perform an immediate dash-cancel outward toward the arena's edge to break line-of-sight and reorganize.
  • Use choke points: Lure aggressive packs into narrow corridors or edges. Funneling enemies prevents flanking and forces them into your frontal attack line.

Attack Windows and Stamina Management

The Counterattack Trial punishes over-committing to long combo sequences. Shift your approach to hit-and-run bursts rather than prolonged melee engagements.

  • Watch for enemy telegraphs: Stop your attack sequence and dash immediately if an enemy flashes or shifts into a wind-up stance.
  • Reset position after heavy hits: Land your primary strike, then cancel backward or sideways to evaluate the enemy's response before engaging again.
  • Enforce the 25% stamina threshold: Stop attacking immediately if your stamina drops to 25%. Shift entirely to defensive positioning until the meter refills enough to support a complete strike-and-dash sequence.
