To survive dense enemy encounters and room transitions in Absolum, prioritize high-threat units immediately, cancel attack recovery animations with dashes, and reserve stamina for defensive movement. Controlling arena space before enemies surround you prevents damage locks and preserves momentum across combat waves.
Prioritizing High-Threat Targets
When entering an area or triggering a new wave, scan immediately for ranged attackers and units with telegraphed charge strikes. Neutralize these heavy hitters and crowd controllers before focusing on standard melee fodder. Leaving ranged or charging units active interrupts your movement flow and locks your hero into disadvantageous recovery frames.
If high-threat targets are allowed to stay on the field, they will zone your hero into corners while you fight weaker enemies. Target them first to ensure your repositioning options remain open.
Using Dash-Cancels for Spatial Control
Dash-canceling cancels weapon end-lag immediately after an active strike connects, allowing direct repositioning without waiting out recovery animations.
- Timing: Input a dash immediately as the active frames of your attack strike the target.
- Rhythm: Maintain a strike-dash-strike sequence to move through enemy lines while maintaining attack pressure.
- Combo Length: If your character freezes in a recovery animation, shorten your combo string and execute your dash earlier.
Mastering this mobility keeps your hero moving through crowded rooms, making it difficult for enemy attacks to track your position.
Controlling Arena Space and Wave Transitions
Positioning during wave transitions dictates how easily you can process incoming spawns.
- Center Positioning: Move toward the center of the arena as the final targets of a wave fall to maintain maximum reaction distance for incoming spawns.
- Establish a Safe Zone: If enemies spawn across multiple corners, clear one side immediately to create an open pocket.
- Funnel Foes: Move to keep the remaining enemies in front of you. Clearing one side allows you to funnel remaining foes into a single line, reducing the directions you must monitor.
Managing Stamina and Enemy Clusters
Combat tactics must adapt to your current stamina levels and enemy positioning patterns:
- Stamina Reserves: Reserve stamina for at least two defensive dashes at all times. When stamina drops, walk or reposition without dashing to bait enemy attack animations while your meter recharges.
- Packed Clusters: Use area-of-effect or knockback attacks to force enemies into each other, creating temporary stuns that grant openings to strike priority targets.
- Spread-Out Foes: Stand near the room's center rather than chasing distant targets. Let spread-out foes move toward you to group them naturally for efficient combo strikes.
