To avoid taking damage from crowded enemy swarms in Absolum, cancel your attack recovery animation by pressing the dash button immediately after a hit connects. Heavy attacks often feature vulnerable recovery frames at the end of their swings. Dash-canceling skips this recovery phase, allowing you to reposition before nearby enemies can counter-attack.

How to Execute a Dash-Cancel

Instead of standing still to finish full combo chains in dense rooms, limit your offense to short bursts and prioritize evasive movement.

  1. Strike: Initiate one or two primary attacks against your target.
  2. Cancel: Press the dash button the instant your attack connects to bypass the end-of-swing animation lock.
  3. Reposition: Dash laterally or away from the enemy's attack path to clear their range.
  4. Reset: Re-evaluate the room, survey for incoming attacks, and select your next opening.

Staying mobile prevents enemy swarms from surrounding your hero and forces groups to re-target your new position.

  • Read enemy telegraphs: Watch for glowing flashes or heavy wind-up stances. Use your dash to exit the area of effect immediately rather than attempting to trade hits.
  • Separate ranged and melee units: Keep ranged casters and shooters in view. Dash through melee groups to create distance and clear space to eliminate ranged threats safely.
  • Kite into choke points: Dash toward narrow corridors or environmental traps. Funneling enemies into tight lines reduces their numerical advantage and lets you strike multiple targets at once.
